Well, not entirely. He also explained that the original test counted sub-domains that the primary page owner also controls as non-upgraded third-party ones, whereas someone performing a SPDY roll-out would most likely also upgrade them. The

A slight tangent, but the very last line makes me wonder: "The Latin crest of Pixar University says it all: Alienus Non Diutius. Alone no longer." Is it possible that would be more faithfully translated as "Lonesome no more"? ( http://en.wi

It sounds like the app has some credentials set up in it that are just not correct. You could try checking your account manager (under Settings) to see if you have a Facebook account listed there, which you can then delete. I have the Nexus

That particular ball may have been dropped in Facebook's (policy) court, not Google's.

That is incorrect. Name policy violations can result in your Google+ profile being suspended, but nothing at all will happen to your Gmail or other services. Gmail accounts only get shut down if the user is a spammer, or under 13 (blame the

Can you point to some examples of Google suing other mobile device manufacturers? If so, how many of them are offensive suits, and how many are defensive moves in response to being sued first?

I see your point; and I think most of my confusion stemmed from the fact that I thought this was made by Microsoft. I simply didn't read carefully enough, and was under the impression it was part of a Microsoft official marketing campaign (

I think it's fairly telling that the analysts appeared to treat the decline in stock price as a punitive measure, rather than offering any kind of explanation for why Page's silence means the company is worth less than it was last week.

I find this rather bizarre, not least for the incredibly short cartoon skirt. Who is it aimed at? Do the creators think that they will win over some mythical basement-dwelling anime-loving "nerds" (male, of course) with this campaign? Is th

Presumably you're merely allotted 2.5 hours. How you spend them is up to you, but the resulting essay is graded.

I desperately hope that the "social" features are implemented as an add-on (presumably installed by default) that can be removed by those who do not want them.

No, it's suggesting that, for example, when interviewing a black and a white candidate, each of whom has a reference letter and a set of test scores, the interviewer would favour test scores if the white candidate had higher test scores, bu

A similar tool is my own PDFMunge, previously discussed on HN here: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1089068 and in more depth on my site here: http://www.felixcrux.com/posts/pdfmunge-improve-pdfs-ebook-r... But this looks quite a bi

That's probably because this is a press release/internal news item, not the research paper itself. That said, I have no idea if they discuss that in the paper either.

Well, the underlying question is whether simple scripting is (in your analogy) closer to "mechanics" or to "driver's license education". I think you're right that at the moment it's more than what almost all everyday users need, but the tre

Interesting... when I did high-school debating (in Canada), we never argued both sides of the same resolution. I did Parliamentary style almost exclusively though, but did make it to various Canada-wide and North-America-wide tournaments.

From what I can tell, the "change" to satisfy them would be removing it entirely. It's not an interface problem, it's the entire concept: it's critical for what Google is doing, but perhaps not at all desired for desktops or servers.

To be quite brazen about it, the only point I see in LinkedIn groups is to slap the logo of a former employer/assocation/whatever on my page so that people see it when they look at my profile.

I'm wondering if there are any recovery firmwares that just let you install unsigned builds and do nothing else . Even this Amon_RA one adds things like extra menus, a partitioning tool, and an "awesome care-bear version". I don't want any

Agreed. Much like the "series of tubes" comment from Stevens -- that's a perfectly good analogy, and one that technically-inclined people use all the time in some variant like "fat pipes". He said so much other ridiculous stuff that I can
