I agree he is a genius in this regard, seeing the core of an issue clearly. I also think the world tolerates more from brilliant people, and this is why you in some workplaces have primadonnas. But look at some of the things Torvalds says,

Could it be the other way around, perhaps anxious people drink more soda?

Definitely. I was charged with fixing Y2K problems at a hospital in the late 90ies. The software scheduling checkups for pregnant women was first, because it had the estimated birth date, i.e. up to 9 months ahead.

Because LOB (line of business) apps don't need to be as polished as customer-facing tools. Lowcode will mostly get you almost there, but not perfectly. For internal tools it can be good enough.

The doom square root trick. Reducing an expensive function to almost nothing with low error. Many writeups on the web far better than I could give.

Is there any statistics on whether women drink more green tea than men? It certainly seems that way.

This is similar to the choice between a salary (quite predictable) and a startup (maybe a lot, might just as well be zero). Or, in a company, between doing consulting or in-house product development.

I love the occasional drink and sometimes getting drunk. But an alcohol dependent work culture is not something to strive for. It is completely ok not to drink and work events should not be completely centered around alcohol.

It sounds like he needs to try Haskell, or strong typed functional in general. Less boilerplate, less testing, less worry when changing code later.

Has anyone designed referral programs for online B2B products? What payback works, and is legal?

Yes, the port will close automatically. It is a bit fragile and vulnerable piece of thin plastic when open, but all in all a harmless prank.

Will definitely try this. I sometimes used latex at work for things like contracts and other documents that should look formal. But occasionally you need to share it with someone to get their input before it is final. Lots of people are unf

I have a FreeBSD certification gained from an exam at EuroBSDCon some years (many years actually) ago. FreeBSD is great, and we still run it at work. Great docs is part of the reason we like it. (Btw this page is extremely annoying to read

Handheld PC (HPC) was a thing in the 90-ies as well with some great hardware such as the Psion 5. Eventually the acronym was "stolen" to mean High Performance Computing. I absolutely loved my Psion.

I would love for sqlite to add import of JSON. They have great CSV import and export. If we could easily import, say, JSON arrays to a single column table, it would make JSON conversion to/from CSV easier. Especially since jq is slow a

This a marvellous job done by a marvellous group. Keep it up! Haskell is great, I absolutely love my Haskell projects at work. And it all depends on work done by volunteers, or contributions from big corps.
