Every recruiting firm that does consulting has some language in their agreement (with both the consultant and the client) about a cost (fee) for hiring the consultant directly. Try before you buy has been around forever. If they are movin

Thanks for the tip, and working on it. Wordpress (paid version) doesn't allow links to several sites (iTunes, Amazon) which is the major issue.

The reduction in health care could just be a function of a salesman saying "We can save you money here" without anyone really knowing the service would be inferior until after the switch. The overall decrease is probably as you re

I've been recruiting for 15 years, and never has it been more important (or expected) to have some samples. Many clients expect to see code samples before even agreeing to interview or phone screen. I think you'll see the difference next

This post and the reaction to it inspired me to write a response https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5706562 "Indicators of Talent (and Heuristics) For Software Engineers". I give a lot of thought to talent, image, and how we judge them

Recruiter here. Another bigger reason for inserting letterhead is so when the company finds the résumé in their DB 6 months later and revisits the candidate, the manager knows the source of hire (and the possibility of a fee).

I believe the key here is not age, but skills. The author's quote "The young understand new technologies better than the old do" can be true, but not always. A developer who has learned perhaps 3 or 4 languages over the course of their ca

I would add a couple more here. First, having a willingness to walk away from the deal, and a number or point to do so, is key in my experience. Second, don't negotiate just because you think you should. I see this quite a bit with very yo
