I've looked through all the comments here and while most of the answers seem to be along the critical mass variety/network effects/market reach, I think the better answer is branding. Specifically, Craig Newmark has earned my trust, and th

I'm interested in hearing your story. I'd even be interested if your revenues came from porn or gambling.

I think it's corporations that have to pay tax twice, not LLC's... Or maybe I'm reading what you wrote wrong? But seriously, llc's are much easier than s or c corporations to manage, and frankly your chance of hitting the IPO lottery are p

I disagree strongly with you on this. Google is a great name, better than all the examples you've mentioned for one simple reason: How many times have you been lost and called a friend and asked her to google an address for you? How many

A couple of short pieces of advice. This is a tactical sales problem, not one of strategy or positioning. It sounds like your strategy is just fine. Do your best to at least slow down his decision cycle (keep him from making a bad decisi

So long as you're writing the business plan with the purpose of helping you think through your new venture, rather than with the purpose of being able to drop it off John Doerr's lap and have him be, like, "Sweet plan, dude, here's three mi

I disagree. For a long time I used to get confused by LinkedIn and Plaxo -- and Plaxo sort of spams people, so the category of professional networking sites (excuse me i'm getting this category wrong) isn't particularly reliable to me. Per

I'll tell you the speaker I didn't like. It was that dude with the dead cat stapled on his head, the one who got up in front of the microphone, supposedly to ask a question, but really just so he could speak truth to power about how colleg
