System design derives from mission and project design. The lander is a demonstrator for a future rover, they had (for this particular mission) no intention to manage and support a lander for a substantial period of time. They basically bolt

Probably thermal design contraints. A lot of black means high thermal radiation (both incoming and outgoing). The orbiter is intended to fly through the atmosphere, so to venture a guess, they want to radiate heat away quickly.

Just to put some perspective on this, you are likely unable to survive >9g when experiencing it for more than a few moments, definitely so if you lack proper training for high Gs (there's a few techniques that help to avoid harm). T

I suppose it's not about "jamming" but rather "accidental overlap" with future trajectories, i.e. another mission may pass through the axis between DSN-station and comet and the signals will mix. Be aware that the b

No. As far as I'm aware, there exist no regulations regarding SETI interference (mainly because this is a private endeavour and regulations would need strong international political support). From the FAQ ( http://m.esa.int&#

No. Not only because the antenna and solar panels will likely break, but Rosetta will receive a self-kill program initiated 10hrs prior to impact, which will shut off all systems on expected impact time. This is in part due to regulations r

There's always a fuse you can pull. And there needs to be a fuse, per regulations on how to build aircraft. The stray MH370 signal was coming from the engines directly, presumably powered by the engine's internal power system, and

You can use any of the LEO/MEO Satcomm services that support simplex and/or duplex data transmission, which currently are Globalstar or Iridium. These are far easier to target since you don't need as much transmitter power re

I found ads to be a major hog (and some bad scrolling scripts on popular or design-y sites). I'm using uBlock Origin or Adblock Plus, which gives a great responsiveness boost for far too many websites.

Chrome does have the better Javascript engine, still, I believe that much of the slow Javascript on Firefox (an other browsers) could be avoided if people bothered testing a little more. All major engines are pretty much comparabl

Because of the LAS, Dravon v2 has to carry more fuel than v1. And it's not only the rocket motors that are heavy, but the supporting equipment and structure (peak loads are different for some parts of the structure). All of that leads

Keep in mind that several copies of a satellite will be built during production. Some are mockups of a few subsystems (e.g. structure), some are used for tests (e.g. thermal, electrical, interference), often there's also a "flight
