At minimum, we should have open source hardware/software for network infrastructure. None of this closed source Cisco gear where they keep leaving embedded root passwords. I would love to see a proven sel4 microkernel used for more net

Is shell performance a limitation for some workflows? I naively think of it as some glue which shunts the work elsewhere. Maybe in the efficiency of pipe? I suppose those lunatics who write full programs in bash? I will always take faster c

If nothing else, it seems pretty silly to have the stolen source accessible from the new work computer. That's just asking for the ruse to be detected too easily (automated backups, virus scanning, etc which could fingerprint the data)

If you are really dedicated to the task of clandestine photos, someone could purchase a dedicated point and shoot. Or a secondary phone for which permanently disabling the speakers is not a concern. Or just shoot video.

Selective breeding always struck me as interesting for the sheer amount of time required for experimentation. Pick your pairs, and then wait 2-5 years before you can repeat the cycle again. Amazing that a single lifetime was able to yield m

Not sure I take the RRC's word for things. Of the new winterization standards, gas suppliers did not have requirements to do anything. From [0] >Analyses after Uri revealed that a lack of winterization in the electric and gas sector

The Firestick/Roku/Chomecast all sell for roughly the same price point. I cannot believe they are all losing money on the physical device. This just strikes me as continuing to enshitify the platform because they can.

Tying into the national grid makes sense, but that does not strike me as an easy project. Would likely take years and many tens/hundreds of millions of dollars to get meaningful interconnects established. Plus whatever Texas->Federa

There are all sorts of crap apps with dark patterns. Apple can say, "We no longer condone this behavior," but that does not give them the right to steal the current money. Return it to the scammed or give it to the developer.

I am not sure that applies if Apple is deliberately withholding the money. Presumably they are making some claims as to breaking of laws or violating a policy. Enscheatment is more about forgotten money. The developer is very aware of their

People have families, mortgages, debt, etc. Sure, these people are probably well compensated, but it is ludicrous to state that everyone has the stability that they can leave their job at a moment's notice because the boss is gone.
