Android's Storage Access Framework is really underrated. Just ask the user to choose a document (file or image or whatever) by firing an intent-- then Android's built-in file picker starts up and you don't have to deal with

Out of interest-- can you take a pic while the lighting outside is similar (assuming weather hasn't changed dramatically?) and maybe adjust exposure to what your eyes see? Or take a camera phone pic for comparison?

Apparently it is not just enabling root, but setting the password the first time you do it (in other words, the blank value has nothing to do with it). Then the subsequent times it'll use the pw you set the first time.
