yep it is messy like that even at corps, but thankfully once you deliver on a few good projects & show you are reliable they will often let you rip up a codebase & re-format the project as you'd like (perhaps while phasing out

yea i think this is the point that shadeless's comment misses. it's not like there is no talent in the world at large, but businesses have a hard enough time deciphering talent when they have 2 in-house developers and can read the

eh yeah but it doesn't hurt to have an admin GUI and a ton of default stack config done for you, that's all I mean. WebSphere is like a 1-click install for a massive stack. The open source community seems to like DropWizard, Websp

I think the clarification "watwut" makes is fitting -- it's not like it's complete perfection in every situation, but I use WebSphere 8.0 running a ton of apps written in a pretty wide variety of techs (Portal, Commerce,

i've been kinda slaggin them off forever on this. they pretty much make money off how inefficient RoR is plus a bunch of vendor lock-in. I switched to Java and work for enterprise now so we have our own servers but for the next hobby p

Yeah I may help out a non-profit team but nothing like this. When you work for a company teacher/student relationships are somewhat natural, its part of what the company is paying for (senior devs should mentor juniors). Even then ther

yeahhhh i mean i guess part of the "guilt" i was expressing is a regret that I was too young/inexperienced to be able to contribute and I too just handed money over to Max/MSP when they were still on version 4, which IIR
