Yes, those people are dumb, however it doesn't really affect the main my point of my comment (which was a bit meander-y I admit), which was merely that "voting against your own self-interest" isn't necessarily a bad th

I don't think those examples make any sense in the context of voting for self-interest. - gerrymandering: voting for someone that will gerrymander is once again voting for your own interests (this time at the expense of democratic valu

I'd argue that rather than vote themselves money, they voted for sharing the exceedingly plentiful (relative to population) natural resources of their country. But yes, that does seem to be a version of "vote yourself money"

Slightly tangential to the article itself, but quite relevant to the overall vibe of this comment section (and others like it): it seems like a large percentage of the HN community genuinely thinks that we should always do whatever is best

For a quicker tie in than watching a whole podcast, the result of Hutter's stance takes the form of the Hutter prize[1], which in some ways has many of the same goals as ARC-AGI, but sees compression itself as the goalpost towards inte

China is "communist" in name only, but they are still a one-party totalitarian state, which is a big reason liberal democracies and "communist" countries weren't friends in the first place. In fact, if "the sta

Do you think engineering managers are doing a ton of technical work day-to-day? Because a "Chief Engineer" is a level (or two or three) above that. Of course the Chief Engineer isn't doing a ton of low-level technical works,

So you think he had no hand in the engineering decisions and work surrounding Starship? On what are you basing this? Because most sources I've seen seem to indicate he is very involved.

What is it grandpa is capable of doing, if not plugging the kindle in the computer and dragging and dropping a file onto the "kindle" device that is now mounted in his file explorer?

> People aren't voting for what benefits them Is this actually desirable? I want informed people who vote for what they think is best for the country. I'd prefer it if everyone else abstained.
