What's the advantage of open information in the context of social applications? Excluding of course social networks built on mutual interest, like twitter or quora. With real-world friends, family, contacts, etc., the closed nature of faceb

Except the nomenclature is so nerdy. You can't really say it out loud. Like is a nicely descriptive verb; 'plus one' is a phrase you see on a formal event invitation.

Youtube's recent policy change replacing Youtube accounts with Google accounts makes me wonder if this is in anticipation of larger social initiative Google Me.

I wasn't suggesting that anyone has 'single, flat, unified persona'; the concept of persona itself is rooted in a notion of social roles and masks. But the idea of the 'authentic self' being compromised by blurring social contexts is what I

Contrary to the author's opinion, I think the facebook comment system almost forces a synthesis of various online personae into a single facebook persona—one that's at least based in part on your real-world self. And while that may often in

I logged in to check out my own, ancient Google profile (which I just about barely set up—bare minimum of info and hadn't logged in since the day I'd heard of it) to discover that has a picture in it that I'd never given Google permission t

You've got a minor css issue on your frontpage with the 'shdtxt' class positioning for your text shadow effect, where the shadows appear misaligned/flow differently than the callout text. Maybe try using text-shadow instead?

They've tried to solve the blurring social contexts problem of facebook with something called 'aspects.' Aspects are user defined sets based on social context, eg 'work', 'school'. You can choose to make any activity on diaspora visible to

It's worth mentioning that last year's Google I/O featured some intense competitor bashing from Vic Gundontra that actually did a lot to strengthen the Android brand, and cemented its status as the primary anti-Apple underdog (now uberdog?)
