Laplink! That part ot my brain hasn't activated in decades... My favourite was bootstrapping using 'COPY /B COM1: C:LL3.EXE' to get the Laplink executable to the target machine over Serial, when you didn't have a sp

Wirepas requested a meeting with us at our office several years ago. They were very polite, but in all honesty, we knew even less about implementing their product afterward, and felt as though they weren't really interested in working

Reading this made me (very) sorely miss my A1200, which I used as my daily driver all the way up to 2003. I was shocked at how much difference in speed a 4MB Fast RAM expansion and 68881 FPU made. You might like Photon of Scoopex's Ami

There's a fascinating (in my opinion) TED talk about this featuring the same Biologist, with examples of regenerative experiments performed using Flatworms: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XheAMrS8Q1c

LEDs can effectively be used as light sensors when wired in reverse - About a decade ago there was a post where someone turned an 8x8 LED matrix into a touch sensor. Edit: Found the link, here it is: https://mrl.cs.nyu.edu/~

Hi, Sorry about the delay, HN doesn't seem to notify me about comment replies. I wrote a simple PHP script that generates the labels. It just pulls a bunch of data from our parts database and positions the text/graphical elements

For prototype/repair/rework parts, we use cheap folders with business card or CD/DVD inserts at work - Cheap and effective! The labels reflect the location of the item in the folder (Folder x Page y) and also the shelf in Sto

Ditto here. Working with mains voltages and cabling every day for over 20 years. I know the IEC specs forwards backwards, but I'm 40, married and can't afford to leave my EE day job for a 4 year apprenticeship that pays nothing. A

I'm so infatuated with these machines that I've been working on designing my own version (using parts available at Mouser/Digikey) for close to a decade. Unfortunately I've been unable to maintain a decent work/life

I honestly had a hard time getting started with ESP32-C3 (my first ESP device). Admittedly all of it was my fault, I got too cocky and assumed things based on previous work with competing devices that I shouldn't have. Once up and runn

I was going to mention how nice the old Black-White-Orange-Blue icons from the 80's Amiga era were, but it turns out I've completely misremembered and they really are quite horrible.

That's odd, it still works for me? Top left corner of the IC, above the dot indicating pin 1, there's a small enameled copper wire connecting one pin/pad of the IC to a nearby ceramic capacitor

Love it! It reminds me of a utility on my old Amiga 1000 that allowed you to view the entire contents of RAM as a large scrollable bitmap. If you ran a game such as Marble Madness, rebooted the machine, then started the viewer program, very
