Rough anecdotal polling from my experience on the Boston-area commuter rail in from the suburbs: I see more iPhones than Kindles, but way more Kindles than iPads. People on iPhones are often playing games, not reading. Kindles are surprisin

I don't - I just find it frustrating when people confuse scalable startups with other businesses and try to apply the advice of one to the other. They are different beasts and have different rules. Talking about one vs. the other is like ar

Did white college kids actively flee MySpace, or were they never on MySpace? Targeting college campuses could very likely have had the effect of attracting a lot of users who had never used social networks before. Flight implies presence in

I absolutely LOVE this whole campaign (one service a day with auto-switching imports). It's good, creative PR and will probably get them as many new users as it converts from other services. [edit: one service a day, not week]

If you want to know how to run a good meeting, read Andy Grove's book, High Output Management. It's the best of the business books I've read. It's hard work to make meetings useful but the book lays out the groundwork.

I use Araxis Merge. It's expensive but it's hands-down, the best merge / diff utility I've ever used. All the rest look and feel like toys in comparison.

This makes me think that I should just place limit orders for every S+P 500 company at $.10. Chances are the orders will never be filled but if this happens again I'll get rich.

The spelled out tutorials are a necessary consequence of a free-to-play model with lots of competition. If I pay $50-100 for a game, I will spend the time to learn it. If a free game on facebook is complicated or confusing there are 100s of
