For some reason if a VC dumps $10m each into 100 companies and none of them is very successful, it's part of the business. YC puts $15-20k into 20 companies and one has a (major) liquidity event and that's a failure? wtf?

Q: Is this common in the industry? A: Look at Microsoft (MSFT ) -- who's running Microsoft? Q: Steve Ballmer. A: Right, the sales guy. Case closed. And that's what happened at Apple, as well. Ouch.

Again my point was less about the usefulness of books and more about the number of books as a somewhat useful proxy for a measure of momentum and size of user community.

I was actually pretty impressed w/ the django book, even in its unfinished state. I also "get" django more than I get rails, so I'm definitely attracted to it (after quick looks at both). My point was just that there's so much behind rails

Hiring is obsolete. Google knows it. Why sift through 100349234 resumes for one job when you could just get some technology and great people?

I love python. I really enjoy programming in it. But then I went to my local bookstore and checked out the web section. There's not a single django book. Or even a web related python book at all. But there's a whole section of Rails books.

I've been thinking about this today and I realized that there's one thing that makes the carriers and handset manufacturers unimportant.... browser support. If the incumbents continue to stifle innnovation, then the best apps will come out

If you've used 3d packages at all, the zooming interface is pretty familiar, even for 2d data/layouts. Many 3D packages (especially maya or shake) use them to elegantly manipulate large graphs, images, etc.

This is the first time I know of that someone has sued a company for not using its products. "MRT, based in Santa Cruz, Calif., argues that its X1 SeCure Recording Control technology has been "proven effective" as such a protective measure

I've used both fvwm2 and metacity without any special tweaking. Had to abandon fvwm2 b/c for some bizarre reason it just won't display firefox in fedora core 5, and netscape 4 just wasn't cuttin' it anymore.
