This becomes more and more true as your processors are more spread out all over the world, sometimes in remote locations. I heard google chooses data center locations based on proximity and access to power, which is probably very limiting.

I wonder what percentage of GOOG's operating costs are power related (heating, cooling, electricity, etc). I imagine that it's probably their highest expense outside of salaries. Cheaper and cleaner power (generated independently off-grid)

I recently read some parts of the FuckedCompany book, which has most of these, as well as many many more amazing bubble flameouts. It's not very well written but a quick and fun read.

Almost every one has a "games" button. Many had "friends" as a button. Ignoring these trends if you are designing for kids seems like a huge mistake.

You could help this along by requiring a karma floor before you can post a job. However, I believe that the jobs tab is a significant competitive advantage for the YC portfolio companies.

I implemented a much simpler version of a 2d physics engine like this in a graphics class back in college (but in gtk on linux). It was really fun to do and surprisingly straightforward. A lot of the math gets much hairier in 3D. This is r

It's FAST too, in terms of calories burned per minute. I love cycling - but any bike ride under an hour isn't really worth the time, unless you're doing hard intervals or climbing a really steep hill. If you have 30 minutes, there's nothin

Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, and others are spending the bulk of their fortunes working in Africa and other developing nations. You would be naive to think that there aren't poor people in the SV area that could use better health care. Like

Revenue is a very poor measure of a company's success. If anything, you should at least rank earnings, since that incorporates profit margins. If I sell $5 trillion of goods at a 0% margin, that doesn't make me a very successful company.
