I did some quick googling and most of cliffs notes guides are on public domain works so no problem there, they've also paid to license content, and also have been protected by fair use as parody

reading it after stealing it: gray area. producing & monetizing competing works devaluing the original is a problem

they'll litigate how meta acquired those materials to train. you can do whatever you want with a book after it's in your house. but how did it get there?

ive yet to see a compelling elitist programming language opinion. especially when used at big successful companies. these companies don't function in spite of their technology choices.

the textbook companies give the hard sell too but it's more honorable with traditional palm greasing and what not

this is a step beyond the drug dealers who give you the first sample for free. Attempts at legally mandated injection sites.

mostly it's a knock on their lack of attention to detail which was sorta jobs' thing. is the culture becoming lax in this new era

reading this thread, I seem to be the only cursor user on earth on the free tier using tab-completes.

a lot of gen ai is essentially a pollution machine creating digital single use plastics. Whoever can identity and sift it for value will be the after ai heroes.

the vibe coders don't know what they don't know so whatever code is written on their behalf better be up to best practices (it isn't)

I had to turn off adsense when every ad they were running was a deceptive green "download" button. It was a whack a mole to try and block them all and was a waste of effort.

this is a good point. Some of the ai companies are trying to hook cs students so they'll only know "dev" as a function of their products. First one's free as they say (the drug dealers).

yeah it's funny to see some defense of this practice as "well the whole thing is pointless anyway so nothing is lost by defrauding folks". Pretty hollow argument

This is where I landed too. At least in the js frameworks "wars" it was reading the docs and prototyping angular and react for free. To try and keep up with the latest AI tools you're expected to spend ~$1k / year.

somehow the ai bros are saying creating .md files is the real ingenuity, and couldn't be learned in say half a day. There's absolutely no rush to keep up with the latest code producing tools especially when they're all "

I still like using it for quick references and autocomplete, boilerplate function. It's funny that text completion with tab is now seen as totally obsolete to some folks.

I'm very patient with the ai-led porting projects since they're revealed with a big engagement splash on social media. Could it be durable? sure but I doubt anyone is in that much of a rush to migrate to a project built in a week

This resonates because nowadays popular developer culture is about how you need to spend $200/mo with a ronco 'set it and forget it' mindset as your AI swarm writes 100k lines of code overnight so you can post about it on twi

vibe coding so far has really homogenized the tech stacks by the self promoters. Vercel is printing money off this phenomenon that's a self fulfilling snowball. But stack diversity is good, not everything needs to be js/ts
