Britain didn't abandon it's space programme. It abandoned a launch rocket programme though. That was over 50 years ago and the rocket was less capable and more expensive than alternatives at the time.

The article is right that open models already compete well with the frontier labs, and that the main thing holding big corps back from switching is fear of China. I can't see OpenAI or Anthropic undermining their business by releasing

For now. SpaceX will be acquiring Tesla as soon as Elon gets around to it.

It's circular when money flows from A to B and then back from B to A again. This is a series of transactions in which money flows from Google to SpaceX. There is no flow of money from SpaceX to Google. So it's not a circle.

I saw one useful feature added, which was support for lower resistance tips. You can also get it to report on the input voltage which is marginally useful if running on battery. Most of it seems to be people having fun. Animations, enabling

Most large companies have the CEO answerable to a board elected by shareholders. CEO still has a lot of power but there are some checks and balances. Zuck and Musk are somewhat exceptional in being dictator-CEOs.

Good news - Anthropic will pay you £600k to build the AI which replaces you. Drag it out for a couple of years and you'll be set.

Capital is cheap for Google because they are making a lot of money and they have very little debt. They are considered a very low risk and can borrow for a long time at low rates. They recently issued a 100 year bond. They seem to have deci

In theory a dividend is also price neutral. You have the dividend now but the company you owned doesn't any more. However, if someone gives you a dividend you typically have to pay tax, and lots of people really hate paying tax. So buy

I love small laptops but this thing would really benefit from a better processor. It's about 4x slower than the Snapdragon 8 elite, a 2 year old smartphone chip. 16GB ram is cool though.

Yes it's a misrepresentation and that's the whole point. If B&M misrepresent things to the auditor it's unlikely they'll detect this. The auditor for B&M would not have access to the original contract between the

I agree people and especially corporations act this way. Indeed many people believe that it's a corporation's fiduciary duty to lawyer up if that's expected to be cheaper than paying up. Here, they are looking at small amount

I agree with you. It makes no rational sense for the corporation to act this way. I can see how they end up losing a court case but can't explain why they don't pay up. It sounds like the first franchise collapsed owing money. I e

I think that hypersonic interceptors would use a rocket motor and not a ramjet, but I'm not sure. I think this is for offence because I understood the advantage of this engine (compared to a rocket engine) is that you don't carry

For many many reasons this engine only has one economic application - delivery of a nuclear payload in a way which is very hard for missile defences to stop. ICBMs can go faster than this already but as I understand it they go higher allow

Your average HFT algorithm will not have time to access storage at all, let alone 10 PB of it. Back testing an HFT algo could very plausibly need 10PB, but I don't see that being co-located with the exchange.

Blocking openclaw made everyone realise that what anthropic giveth, anthropic can take away. It is similar to the xAI gas turbines in that it tarnished their image - at least amongst those naive people who saw them as a plucky startup rathe

The icing on the cake for Elon is that it strengthens the competition to OpenAI. Or is that actually his main motivation. Hard to know. Either way it's a win win win for him.
