Right, because your boss couldn't possibly be tracking Exchange Server. On that note, it would be a neat trick if Posterous handled encrypted mail...

Drudge Report was almost literally one single page of static html. I would say it shook up the news industry.

Enlighten me, what's all this talk of firewalls? Am I just a caveman for doing everything with iptables?

It's a great idea. I'm assuming there wouldn't be any latency issues (e.g. waiting for confirmation), but who knows how these withdrawals are reconciled. I think even JUST an SMS alerting you to the transaction would be useful as a v1 (with

Thanks for the feedback. I'm curious -- I understand the gaming angle, a hosted badge service (isn't someone here doing that? can't remember) -- but not sure I understand how you see a "shared" or "distributed" karma system working. If I ha

UX wise, I figured that the user will travel around with a 3rd party cookie from our main domain. The site operator will install a simple <script> tag. The script tag will fire off a jsonp request to our server. If there's no cookie

I agree that it only generates pageviews. I don't think it would be a huge leap to adapt it to optionally reward actions. The technical trick there would be a secure (e.g. ungameable) way to do it in JavaScript only... which I can't think o

#1 - http://gnip.com/ ? #2 - I don't get it. #3 - Interesting idea, interesting idea to build functionality on top of Dropbox. Didn't know that was technically feasible. #4 - This space is way crowded, to say the least. Good luck!

I'd love to see a benchmark of per dollar performance of Heroku vs. EC2. Heroku seems more expensive to me, but I may be wrong.

When you issue a single charge for a webapp, what kind of legal language have you provided in the EULA that states something to the effect of "I can take the webapp down whenever I want and you will no longer be able to access the service y

That's funny. As a coder, it seems like EVERYONE around me is a coder, and I can't for the life of me find any people interested in bizdev/marketing/etc to partner with.

The tutorial is pretty killer but afterwards when I go to play I just feel plopped into nothingness. Do I have a team? Is the game played in realtime or slowly turn based? There are still a lot of unanswered questions. More importantly, whe

People can say what they want, but EC2 is not really about scale. It's about on-demand resources. Which can help with scale, but it's not an automatic solution like AppEngine for example. You might be able to provision a huge box there fast

#1 Totally makes sense. But what constitutes a resource to you? img, script, css? And from my perspective. The challenge for me to overcome is bandwidth. Also, define blocking. You mean long download times, or literally blocking the browser

It's a valid consideration, but I'm sure you can't quantify what percentage the market has shrunk by in light of this (nor can I). My gut would say no more than 5%. Until you can run Zencart/Xcart/Wordpress etc on Appengine or Heroku, there

These are great points. You may be onto something. But (and it seems like so many ideas ultimately come back to this!) how would you market to these customers that don't know that they want these things to be monitored? It seems more like

See my larger response below. In my own experience the detailed monitoring was always what found our problems and outright 50x was very rare. But I worked at a very large etailer with a complicated SOA, so it might be a "head only" problem.

Thanks for the responses so far folks. It's interesting, because I raised this idea in a separate thread, and there was a lot of "i'd use that" kind of responses. Glad I'm double checking... :) My initial thought (and maybe my MVP proposal

More and richer checks per dollar. Better reporting. Better interface. Active development. Post-MVP will add a lot of features they don't have.
