You’re right. But this is wholly tangential to the discussion; an alternative storefront will not change MTX practices.

My take is slightly more nuanced - if you're paying a company to access their content, it shouldn't matter how you're accessing that content. More concretely, as a (former) subscriber to Reddit Premium, I should continue to g

Using batteries which don't fail in a self-perpetuating fire (like lead-acid) is a good first step towards a safe DIY battery solution.

Google's recency bias in search results hurts them too. There are many older resources which are still valid out there, but you won't find them (easily) via Google Search. Instead, you get the SEO spam which doesn't match the

As a customer, I'm a fan of Anker products. I haven't had to return one yet, and I have a few of their batteries and a ton more cords/hubs/etc. I look forward to seeing the price for these home-scale battery packs.

They're crack dealers, to be sure. But they offer a lot of stationary supplies you can't get even in dedicated office supply stores. Like .3mm gel pens. And automatic rotating/advancing mechanical pencils.

I agree, for under $100, they'll probably last under a year of solid use. And I agree that they're not generally worth getting serviced (though, if you want a new hobby...), the lack of good jewels on the pivot points will kill yo

I love that you can get mechanical watches for between $50 an $100 now. They don't keep great time (loose/gain a few seconds a day), but there's something mesmerizing about watching that second hand sweep.

Those sound more like dip pens with some old iron gall inks. Modern nibs are able to be used in pretty much any orientation, and they use modern inks which don't dry out, if you keep a cap on them. I have several pens with caps that si

Get a $3 Pilot Varsity, and use it however you want. It works slightly better if you keep the flat metal part on the top, but I've used one in every orientation. No special way to use it, disposable, and cheap if you don't like it
