This example shows nicely how ugly text processing is: you have to use head and tail simply to trim out the first line of ls (the total). I think it doesn't even work correctly. ls lists files and directories and then picks the first

Ok if it's not for you. But there is of course a very good reason — work with objects in the pipeline instead of "dumb text". Also PowerShell and nushell are quite nice to learn, whereas Bash is absolutely horrible.

Yeah, weirdly enough it seems some tools actually make server requests (3rd party even). For example the QR code generator. Seems unnecessary, since certainly there are libraries to create QR codes client-side?

Many of those things can be done with commandline utilities which come pre-installed with your OS of choice. But you have to learn about them, it's not a clicky GUI.

I tested Firefox, Safari and Brave on macOS. Results are totally different for each. "for loop, positive" seems to be the only safe bet. Safari was very slow on everything, Brave and Firefox were slow on `for … of`. I'm surpr

The huge area of intense yellow (or any highly saturated color actually) is very jarring. The eyes get tired quickly. It's really a weird choice coming from a person who is apparently into visual communication. Btw, I'm using a de

Thanks, but that's a 404 for me. Maybe a private repo? I would just like to see something more complex than very simple examples — an actual real project.

I'm not gonna argue with you. That's just silly. Have a read here if you want, but I suppose you're just trolling: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhinoceros_3D https://en.wikipedia.org/wik

I think this definition is a bit too strict. CAD just means computer aided design. Architects use Rhino to design buildings. You use it to design airplanes. CAD doesn't even have to be 3D.

You're not offering anything of value. We all can ask some LLM about stuff we want to know. It's like in the past, when someone would post a link to search results as a reply.

Let's use the influx of new users to get some money flowing! It would be great if all those "I switched to Linux" articles would mention a few ways to donate to some important projects, helping to make FOSS thrive.

Ha. That caused quite some reputation damage. However I would say infiltration and spying is more of an intelligence agency tradition, than a swiss tradition.

If you're interested in storytelling and Joseph Campbell's work, Mike Hill has some excellent videos, analyzing some blockbuster movies. [1] Just ignore his podcast / interview type videos. This would be a good start: https:

Nothing. You would use `!` to force unwrap in this case. I think the point of the comment was that in many cases , when constructing a url, you can't be sure that the input will result in a valid url (e.g. when receiving a string inst

You talk about interactions. In my mind the useful part is the added information density which comes easy (we are good at judging object sizes visually, not by numbers). I also want this information before interacting with the files. The

The size of a file has nothing to do with its importance. But it's a valuable piece of information when you're shoveling data around.
