I prefer having a clean instance so I can open up an emacs for the project I'm currently working on, as opposed to lugging all those other buffers around and leaving any changes intact. So I don't use a daemon. And these "adv

Ideally use-package would simply be included in emacs, so you could rely on it. Apparently they are getting close: https://github.com/jwiegley/use-package/issues/282 Until then, I have this in my init.el to i

This reminds me of Littlecheck [0], the test helper we use in fish [1]. The way that works is that you provide a script to be run in some interpreter (for our cases that's usually fish, but it can also be sh or python or ruby or whatev

What exactly is "behind dpkg's back" here? This was discussed, in the open, years ago ! This was implemented, as an option, years ago. This was implemented fully in other distributions years ago! Fedora has had it for a deca

I don't believe the list is detailed enough, because it just says "thing is broken", but not under what circumstances. As best as I can tell, `dpkg-query -S` is broken by this iff it's passed a path to a file that'

There is no specific reason for a program that uses the XDG dirs on other unices to not use them on macOS, other than some idea that it's "alien". You can have ~/.config/. Nothing in macOS prevents you from having

EFI is here, non-specialty Linux distros don't really have the option of not adopting it. So the choice is between adopting it and keeping BIOS indefinitely, or adopting it and at some point in the future dropping BIOS.
