Not quite a startup yet, more a partially implemented idea, but I'm making a set of "retro consoles" to fufill a lifelong dream of making proper second screen games, in the style of Four Swords for the Gamecube. I've be

Bots? eh... probably gonna agree. Apps, hard no. API access to third-party apps is the only way to make competition work out in the end. IRQ, AIM, and MSN Messenger all existed around the same time, and thanks to XMPP, worked equally wel

There's a seperation between a library and a pirate site, so it's kinda a bad faith argument, but even going on the merits of your argument, I am pressed to point out that, yes, other libraries have digital lending. It's call

Wanna throw in a small, but hopefully important story here. About 5 years ago, IA managed to recover a nearly decade long lost card game. It wasn't a huge deal, and the original creator had assumed it permanently lost when his websit

There's a fine line that could exist, but doesn't right now. Archiving content is a concept that goes back to the first cave paintings, and one tactic that has been proposed is to archive silently (meaning don't publish the

I'd argue that Prusa still has value over both Voron and Bambu Lab, though that value is dependent on the user. Voron still requires significant self-assembly, as you can't buy it as a prebuilt (far as I know), and doesn't h

Other than being a decent human being that actually sticks to the agreements they made, nothing. But there is a surprising amount of value in "being a good person" when you're not a mega-corp.

A surprising amount of truth to this. of my 600+ library, about 30 of them won't run under windows 10, but run fine under Proton. Multiple hacks/mods/compatibility tools have done nothing to make it work, but for all but 4,

> Simply don't buy an Apple phone. We said that about the headphone jack. Look where we are now. Companies follow what works, and Apple continues to pioneer anti-consumer practices. You shouldn't buy Apple, but that's

Because it isn't just Apple. Back when Apple removed the headphone jack, people constantly said "Well just use Samsung" or some other brand. Look at where we're at now. If Apple can beat the current pressure, other br

And I'm not even sure about those two. There's a limit to deny first that most end users will gladly override to keep things moving smoothly.

I'm gonna have to give this a thumbs up for use too. I'm not a fan of it being propritary, or tied to a web service, but it works amazingly well for what it is. I'm still hunting for a good self-hosted or offline alternative

Section 3.B of the EULA says no, but also that can be changed at any time, so possibly. I have a friend who released a game using Machine earlier this year, and they're scrambling right now to get a lawyer to look at this. Current op

Godot is MIT licensed, and as such this 100% can't happen. Absolute worst case is they limit or remove future versions, but MIT basically means "mention that this was MIT licensed." Do that, and they can't stop you f

They're gonna reach out and see how far this extends. According to 3.B, the game would be a "derivative work", and as such shouldn't be subject to this requirement. They've already started working on replacing it

Actually, I might know someone who can answer this. Or, at least they'll have to figure it out. I didn't realize this was that platform. A friend started a company last year to build a game based on this, and I'm pretty su

I'm sorry, is this in any way legal? Did they just tell people to delete their games? Like... I'm pretty sure this kind of rug pull would destroy any company that relies on this engine. 14 days for a full re-write is insane.

I keep forgetting that part of GDPR is the storage aspect. Unless it goes in a log (though it usually does,) it's not counted. A technical argument could be made that going into memory is storage, but at that point the above issue co

Does it? I would assume that means every single online interaction needs a consent banner, since sending a request over TCP includes, by it's nature, your IP address. I never dug too deep into GDPR or the like, since my own websites

So Linux gives users too much control of the things they own? Sounds like anti-cheat is inherently user hostile. Maybe we should be pushing developers to stop relying on owning things that aren't theirs to own? Then again, we'r
