I meant Prime Video. But even the store part of Prime is not that convincing anymore to me, shipping times feel much more random to me now than they used to. So maybe there is a significant speed advantage in Prime, but it's just hard

I canceled Prime after they added ads. I might have canceled it anyway at some point, but this was a very clear and significant reduction in value. They never really competed all that well, but there were some interesting original shows on

The article described the content as "white nationalism, QAnon conspiracy theories, and harassing transgender people". I think it is appropriate to label that kind of content "far right".

Postgres has a query planner, I mean this entire post is about improvements to it. So I think there either was some miscommunication or your friend doesn't know anything about Postgres. There are very large Postges databases that seem

As far as I understand prepared statements don't help here as the JIT output is not saved but generated for each execution. In this case I'm also using an ORM (EF Core) which doesn't expose the ability to prepare statements.

Query planner improvements are always welcome, it's a very important part of the DB. Though of course most of the time you notice it is when it's not doing what you want ;-). One part of this I found rather frustrating is the JIT

The title does sound very much like clickbait, but the "paper" is certainly bad enough that I wouldn't even consider it a scientific paper at all. It's about twice the size of the abstract of a typical paper, and has ess

They're much too big of a target now for spy- or malware. They have too much access to everything we do in a browser. And you can't just evaluate them once, they auto-update silently and you never know when they might be bought by

Lab notebooks are often digital today. Of course they shouldn't get lost and all changes need to be logged. The software described here would be entirely unacceptable as a lab notebook.

Depends probably on how extensive and detailed the notes are. And the big problem seems to be that they are hiding the fact that those notes were from memory.

The default view reorders the bytes as far as I can tell. It's mentioned in the help, but I don't really get how to make use of this feature. Maybe I tried it on the wrong kinds of files, but I found the default view confusing. Bu

One advantage of this is e.g. that you do not have to register for elections at all in Germany. You get automatically notified of all elections based on your residence and can vote without further steps.

While I'm also not a huge fan of this way of writing, it works very well as a supporting device for me. You have a lot of room there for world building, and the people interested in it read or listen to all the scraps and everyone else

No need for any blockchains here, this essentially describes an SDMS (scientific data management system). Which do exist, but are not very common outside of larger companies. And the more common Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN) are in most ca

I can think of plenty of inefficient ways to do this. The nice thing about the SKIP LOCKED queue is that it is very simple and pretty fast. Postgres just has to use an index to look at the jobs in some defined order and take the first one t
