Sorry, I was ambiguous in my statement there. I'm not surprised it's the default, that makes sense for all the reasons you state. I'm surprised this post also recommends "worker" instead of "io_uring" for

Interesting that the recommended default for performance is "worker" instead of "io_uring". The early posts about async IO in Postgres 18 read a bit different here, this post here appears more authorative to me though. W

Just for comparison, you can buy a 28 Tesla magnet that is stable over long times. Well, it's part of a 1.2 GHz NMR spectrometer, but I suspect it's the strongest magnet of that kind you can buy off the shelf. These comparisons ar

One of the worst instances of this was when the government lawyers essentially replied "We thought only the written orders count" when asked why they didn't comply. I'm not a lawyer, but from the reactions of actual lawy

RNA structures are really more of a basic research thing. Having better tools there would be useful to understand these parts better. That's not irrelevant, but it doesn't lead directly to therapeutic applications. RNAs so far hav

It seems this is self-reported. And we Germans certainly wouldn't admit that we're living pretty good lives overall. There's always something to complain about.

That would justify a valuation in the same range as other car companies. Not the valuation Tesla has right now.

It is actually possible to change the rules with sufficient notice period and to write enough details that people have a chance to understand exactly how the rules will change. They're not doing that. This is a choice they are making.

Software developer salaries are still extremely high in the US. So I would doubt that this has had a huge effect.

I really like C#, and I would generally vastly prefer it to NodeJS on the backend. I think one weakness is the library ecosystem, the competitors are stronger there. Most of the time this doesn't bother me as I also tend towards limiti

In a different setting, with a different person on the other side that might potentially be plausible. But with Trump, why would you expect him to know or care about any details like that.

I wouldn't consider this a misnomer, but a really big misuse of the term. Middleware has a long established definition in web applications, so they really should not use the term if they mean something entirely different.

NextJS has been pushed aggressively by many people and often recommended as a kind of default for React applications. Which I consider a bad idea, in a large part because NextJS contains a lot of complexity that most applications don't

Local NVMe storage is incredibly fast though for databases. Probably not a big factor in your test here, but certainly a relevant factor if you was to push the DB more.

Databases have tools to work with storage or servers that can fail. You would need to use replication between multiple database servers and a backup method to some other storage. Databases with high availability and robust storage were poss

There are real pain points with async/await, but I find the criticism there often overblown. Most of the issues go away if you go pure async, mixing older sync code with async is much more difficult though. My experience is mostly with
