Doesn't matter, if they want to keep operating in such countries, they've got several options to choose from, amongst providing a backdoor or disabling E2EE.

I disagree with the sentiment, the IA is a very useful source, but, as shown here, it provided the wrong answer. In general, you can't trust it to tell "how old is something", only to show that it is "older than".

Hi, back after few days. I had quite a lot going on, and the "you sound angry" hint probably meant that I was better-off not responding straight away :) First of all, thanks for acknowledging the lack of focus of the project. I am

"upset" isn't perhaps the best word, "bitter" would come closer, and not for my sake necessarily but for those who are still new to this. You and I exchanged 1:1 around 8 years ago on MatrixHQ, when this whole thing

Matrix folks have been constantly over-promising and under-delivering for almost a decade now. If you've been following long enough, that should be of no surprise. Sorry for the bashing, but I got bitten once, and I see that nothing ha

That's a use-case where XMPP shines, historically. There are embeddable/lightweight clients doing that job well without all the matrix fuss.

I mean, I get the reference, but this amount of upscaling has a measurable cost in the real world, in this day and age (a small simulation from EC2's price calculator brings it from $40 to $80 a month if you go e.g. from t2.medium to t

I don't think anyone in their sane mind considers Teams (or anything electron-based, really) a model of adequate resource usage :) And I'm thrilled that you can afford $100-$600 a month of server costs to run jisti, but I'm w

I bet a majority of those 70M is WebKit itself, and I don't think there's any way to "condense" any of this since it lives outside of the JVM.

I don't think it makes sense to expect XMPP to "make an impact" ever, if by that you mean "to spontaneously become the next dominant network" (or it already is, under the guise of WhatsApp, bar the federated aspect)

At some point you need to ship the runtime, right? Even native (Go, Rust, C++, …), depending on how you do the linking. What would make it more acceptable in this case is that you would strip down the JVM and only ship the modules depended
