At the risk of sounding naive, I think grades are overrated, to the point that they may indeed kill the spirit of learning. To make matters worse, the US system has way too many grades: quizzes, exams, assignments, extra-credit (!) assignme

I liked your use of ed. You can avoid one pipe with the -s option: `echo ,n | ed -s file`. Also, another POSIX one-process option besides awk: `pr -tn file` (with different padding).

Why did such an ambitious project choose private registration? It makes it look unnecessarily shady. Why not set Mixed Media Labs [1] as the Registrant? [1] https://manage.app.net/about/

You're right, MarkMonitor's portfolio is truly impressive, so there must be something to it. I just thought that precisely those top tech companies (maybe not banks) would appreciate having the additional security layer that arguably comes

What I don't understand is that Google, being an accredited ICANN registrar [1], is not its own registrar, just like Go Daddy or Name.com. [1] http://www.icann.org/en/registrars/accredited-list.html

If anything Africa is the closest to being obvious. Antartica doesn't qualify, as it has no permanent population [1]. Even if it did, its non-permanent population is so many orders of magnitude behind the rest [2] that its inclusion in the

I'm puzzled by the downvote... There is plenty of granularity within every country, let alone every continent. But even allowing some rough generalizations, [1] shows that Africa is the only firm candidate for such an assertion. [1] http:/

A characteristic aspect of philosophy is to question essentially every assumption. You and I may find other things much more interesting, even if they require some basic assumptions, but that's another story. Edit: I don't know why araneae'

Neurethology for one thing assumes the existence of matter, in particular neurons... It may not be your cup of tea (or mine!), but I very much doubt philosophy will ever become obsolete as long as there is a functioning mind ;-).

It is interesting: the hosting is indeed by an IP address that points to Google's 1e100.net, but the domain's registrant is not Google, rather an individual. Moreover, the name servers are hosted by fabulous.com. Go figure...

Do you mean brute-force trail and error for every possible domain? That looks daunting, and an easy way to have your IP address blocked.

Thanks for your reply. I guess I was thinking of low-controversy articles such as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System , but given your background I'm sure your perception is closer to reality than mine.

Ruby Ring [1] offers an unlimited VPS for $2.49! I'm a flat-fee junkie, and although I hope I some day have the prospect of actual overuse, I love the peace of mind associated with flat fees. Just for the curious, yes, you do get quite a fe
