It had never happened to me except for Confluence and Microsoft Teams. Firefox even preserves the typed text between reloads of the page - so unless the web app hacks the textarea somehow, the text will stay there.

It depends on how you define "better". I'd say that anything else I used (github/gitlab issues, asana, trello, even a spreadsheet) works better *for me* - i.e. it is faster and easier to find things in a small team. I on

It's not going to make a rubber ducky from it. And the age of autorun USBs is hopefully over. I think this is but too paranoid However, I'd not want to be the device manufacturer, making it secure against all kinds of USB attacks

How many people are using FairPhone or PinePhone outside HN bubble? I don't know anyone, even though most of my friends are from tech or science... I think that answers if people care about hackability / sustainability or similar

So it depends if you prefer writing or doing code review :) You'd maybe need another tool which converts review work to writing work

I have been using copilot for some time... I'd say yes and no. It helps you a lot when you are writing repetitive code, so in a way it encourages you to write the repetitive BS instead of making a function for that or something. But it

I just wrote the search query to our PM, since I was unable to find anything myself... I don't understand why just couldn't use, IDK, a shared spreadsheet, even that would be more productive (from my perspective)

Mullvad is based in Sweden, they seem to be privacy friendlier in general (even allowing sites like sci-hub on their TLD)

They did remove support for Jedi language server in their Python extension. Sure, you can fork it, but nobody will actually use it, since their extension is also free and also looks open. And I didn't find any extension which does that

And most likely deprecate support for the open Language server, as they did with Pylance/Jedi...

Yea, the drama occurred when it was in preview, so we all thought it's going to have real hot-reload capability as we know from webdev.

Look, nobody complains about Visual Studio. People get angry when suffocate existing tools with their free and "open source looking" alternatives. Ask Python devs if they think that their VSCode extension is open ... Even I though

When I use Rider I just fully accept that it's not open source. Same with the old Visual Studio. VSCode on the other hand looks open source, they claim it's open source, the extension is open source, yet the most critical componen

I'd say that most corporate-backed platforms will have similar issues. The corporations simply have other interests than the community (next quarter profit + control / long term stability + independence). Only way to keep them fro

It works reasonably well though, most extensions are in the libre open-vsx.org gallery. Only problem for me is the missing .NET debugger...

No, they are equally "guilty". At least they don't brag how OSS friendly they are. There is open source debugger from Samsung ( https://github.com/Samsung/netcoredbg/ ), but it does not see much use.

(I just posted it on HN, the domain and website is not mine) I agree calling .NET closed platform because of the debugger and now LSP is over-dramatic simplification of the situation. However what else is it than Microsoft pushing a proprie

If they want to unify and not just have more control over the ecosystem, why not unify them over OmniSharp or other open LSP?

You could however reasonably expect that core tools like debugger and LSP will be open too.

That would have to get fixed by the corporate maintaining that SSO. I even tried whitelisting domains, but it's also PITA since MS redirects you through 10 domains or so. Now I'm using cookie autoeater almost everywhere... so feel

Yea. CPU time might be cheap but if someone is waiting for that CPU, you are now wasting someone's time.

I have yet to see a slow HTML-only website ;) (which is not 10MB single file spec or entire book). Really, I don't think html parsing is a huge bottleneck and these few parser exceptions don't seem to be that hard to implement - j

I have no idea what Google does, but expect their parsers to be quite robust. I tried doing some web scraping, and so many pages are not even valid HTML (most often invalid nested tags, like a table inside span, missing closing tags even wh
