Speak for yourself and your own use cases. There are a huge diversity of workflows with which to apply automation in any medium to large business. They all have differing needs. Many excel workflows I'm personally familiar with already

I think actually Anthropic themselves are having trouble with imagining how this could be used. Coders think like coders - they are imagining the primary use case being managing large Excel sheets that are like big programs. In reality most

I used to live in Excel too. I've trudged through plenty of awful worksheets. The output I've seen from AI is actually more neatly organized than most of what I used to receive in outlook. Most of that wasn't hyper-sophistica

It seems like to me the answer is moreso "People on HN are so far removed from the real use cases for this kind of automation they simply have no idea what they're talking about".

Seems like you're very confused about what this work typically entails. The job of these employees is not mental arithmatic. It's closer to: - Log in to the internal system that handles customer policies - Find all policies that w

George Hotz says a lot of things. I think he's directionally correct but you could apply this argument to tech as a whole. Even outside of AI, there are plenty of niches where domain-specific solutions matter quite a bit but are too sm

What is with the negativity in these comments? This is a huge, huge surface area that touches a large percentage of white collar work. Even just basic automation/scaffolding of spreadsheets would be a big productivity boost for many em

Glad I'm not crazy, the tide right now of codex > sonnet is overwhelming. Frankly I think what most people go by is "does the code work" - codex is admittedly relentless. It's very good at producing code that works. B

Sonnet 4.5/CC is faster, more direct, and is generally better at following my intent rather than the letter of my prompt. A large chunk of my tasks are not "solve this concurrency bug" or "write this entire feature"

Very fair. Interesting how much feedback on models/tools is different right now depending on what you're doing.

IMO Sonnet 4.5 is great but it just isn’t as comprehensive of a thinker. I love Anthropic and primarily use CC day to day but for any tricky problems or “high stakes, this must not have bugs” issues, I turn to Codex. I do find if you let Co

It’s interesting because I’ve slowly arrived at the opposite conclusion: for much of my practical day to day work, using CC with “allow edits” turned OFF results in a much better end product. I can correct it inline, I pseudo-review the cod

Yeah of course, same here for formatting. But in the world of LLM agents it's pretty easy to have formatting issues sneak by without the IDE being involved. It's a very quick and easy check. For type checking, I guess that makes s

Yeah there's really no trouble with a pre-push hook that runs common/fast code checks. For TS projects I just run formatting, type, and lint checks. Faster feedback than spinning up a runner in CI and if I don't need it I jus

Notice how pricing is the top discussion theme. People love free shit and it's hard to deny codex usage limits are more generous. My 2c for someone who uses both tools pretty consistently in an enterprise context: - Codex-medium is bet

I think a lot of people judge these models purely off of what they want to personally use for coding and forget about enterprise use. For white-label chatbots that use completely custom harnesses + tools, Sonnet 4.5 is much easier to work w

Yeah I've looked into that kind of thing. In general I don't love the pattern where a coding agent calls another agent automatically. It's hard to control and I don't like how the session "disappears" after the

IMO, I was an early adopter to this pattern and at this point I've mostly given it up (except in cases where the task is embarassingly parallel, eg: add some bog standard logging to 6 different folders). It's more than just that r

I did! I created a discord that wasn't even attempting to represent the "city" itself, it was just for mid 30s guys to figure out if we wanted to go golfing or something. They told me they would ban me if I posted it again.

Great walkthrough, I might send your comment to my coworkers. I use AI to write pretty much 100% of my code and my process looks similar. For writing code, you really want to step through each edit one by one and course-correct it as you go

That's a pretty cynical read. My personal impression is that Anthropic has a high level of integrity as an organization. Believe what you want, I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt here and move on.
