Twitter is full of interesting niche people talking about their favorite subjects. For example, there is no better way to follow the war in Ukraine.

I say this as someone who loves twitter: it's cooked. I spent time on threads earlier today and it is the answer people have been looking for. Nobody has a better track record of giving the users the features they want, even if that me

Big spreadsheet advocate. I use spreadsheets for everything, basically my entire life is organized in a big excel file. All my finances, to do lists, notes, calendars, etc. Excel is flexible enough you can build almost any "app" i

OS X not only uses a lame hack to scale, it completely muddles the issue by introducing the concept of "HiDPI" UI elements. Somehow I can set my 4K monitor to use "native resolution" at 3840 x 2160, and yet the UI and fo

Yes, I went ahead and got a 4K 120hz monitor even though my use-case is coding, because it was so jarring switching between my M1 ProMotion display and my main monitor. Just scrolling/cursor movement is so much smoother, 60hz vs 120hz

I remember signing up for Reddit as a college freshman. I was a digg user and joined Reddit in the aftermath of that fiasco. I sometimes laugh looking over my post history for the past decade plus. If you read the posts linearly, you can tr

Our system was super well received minus the stability issues. I think the UX of being able to "ship" code like this is a big leap over the alternatives - it actually gives me a lot of confidence in the approach seeing that someon

Very interesting. I just worked to implement a baby version of this kind of system at work. Similar to this project, our basic use case was allowing researchers to quickly/easily execute their arbitrary R&D code on cloud resources.

The problem is that you are using it for a "deceptively difficult task" and not "a task I know how to do, or could easily look up, but would prefer not to". Looking at my ChatGPT history, some things I've used it fo

Yes, identical story here. I was over the moon when I got the job. Within 6 months was basically just waiting until I had been there long enough that leaving wouldn't look bad.

Yeah, that's basically the case. They don't have a plugin system, afaik it's still in the planning phase. They have LSP support, but copilot is a non-standard kind of LSP, and last time I looked the devs weren't interest

Helix is awesome but have been disappointed by the core devs stance toward integrating some form of copilot. It's really difficult to use an editor that doesn't support it at this point.

They don't do containerized development well. VS Code + docker for development "just works", as of 2023 there is still no similar workflow in PyCharm. You have to start the container and treat it like an SSH target.

Not really. Tons of these preferences are gated behind SIP, something you can't turn off if it's a work laptop.

I don't really understand why it had to be this way. It's so easy to think of other ways this could have been handled. Even just announcing the same change with 6 months of lead time rather than 1 month would have gone over better
