Opera 12 will indeed be updated with security patches for some time. "You can expect that we will keep Opera 12.x up to date and secure." http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2013/07/02/op

Download manager is still included. Other features will follow, although email has been split into a separate product, Opera Mail ( http://www.opera.com/computer/mail ). The size increase is due to a complete rewrite bas

All I have heard is "Linux will follow", no mention of FreeBSD so far.

It is based on chromium including blink, which is a webkit fork, so yes, it is.

Linux version will follow, maybe not for opera 15 though but for the next release. edit: Taken from official statements on the opera desktop blog, http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/

I like it a lot when someone involved with the project answers to "bug reports" or complaints like this. Gives me the feeling that they care. I see this a lot on hacker news and it always puts a smile on my face.

Funny you mention it. Search in opera mail is excellent and extremely fast. It searches through all of my 12k mails in the blink of an eye.

They are building a completely new browser based on chromium. So they didn't really strip it out, they just didn't add it to the new browser.

I expect Linux and Mac versions to follow. They have released windows version first on new products in the past.

You can't install them from the chrome store, but if the developer uploads the to the opera add-on store you can install it.

I think they have done a good job of making an opera-flavored chromium. It already feels like opera in many ways. Now all we need is some more features. I'm very excited for the next versions.

Personal account costs 4.95$ / year. What kind of premium account do you have to pay 50$ / month for?

Edit: This is not meant to sound discouraging to the developer; I just suspect he solved the wrong problem. I find it very strange that a tool exists to reduce chrome's memory footprint by closing tabs. This does not seem to be the right so

Learn from the best - again, a leading browser vendor is adopting a feature pioneered by opera. I wonder whether there is any correlation with the demo of a new opera mobile version last week that is essentially chrome with turbo.

by exterm 14y ago
you can use this as a reason for using opera, too.

looking at the video, they good quite a lot of opera specific features in it though. Anyways, this is just a preview, the finished product could look different (and have different features).
