Linux Mint is the next easiest step from Ubuntu. Then Debian. If you want to learn more, try Arch. If you want to try something avant garde, maybe Guix or NixOS.

we have a long term lease for an IP block. we've considered buying one. They're quite expensive to buy but aren't getting cheaper!

That's a good start! Ultimately, I'm not just not sure what the right billing model here is. Obviously, I want to pay a "reasonable amount", but I understand you need that model to have some kind of payment floor. :) Som

Wow! I absolutely love this! I will have to try it! Better C4 tooling has been something in the back of my mind for a while and this looks pretty polished. I do have some concerns on pricing. $30-40/editor/month is pretty steep! U

Until Nix gets some kind of concept approximating interfaces such that the compiler can tell me "hey, you're missing this field to meet this interface" or "the shape of the argument for this thing is blah", it will

Oh, it's not so bad. Having and independent schema file being one to one with the proto files is not quite as nice, but then you still can get bindings in each language to the proto. The goal is to avoid defining the table schema in ea

Mostly objective, but slightly misleading. I'd be interested in counting how many times a developer runs `cargo build` compared to `make` and `cargo check` compared to `I don't think there is a c++ equivalent`. I imagine the total

Yea, comparing C++ build times and Rust build times seems to ignore the practical workflow differences between writing the two. Also, I think it's a little silly to say that Rust build times scale poorly (even if it isn't quite as

That's fair. What I'm unsure of is how well proto can be modeled in various existing relational databases and what the performance and management consequences might be. If I have a message defining a table and it has a field which

Well, that's certainly something. I haven't stumbled across this before. It's very interesting, but one reason I want it to be proto is so you can re-use that for bindings with your applications.

What I want is a new database that defines tables in terms of rich structures like proto, like Spanner. If that doesn't exist in a couple years, maybe I'll try to build one.

Civilization/society is, in a lot of ways, a human rejection of natural selection as the fundamental force driving our species's future. But evolution as a process, as much as we can ascribe these terms to a stochastic process, is

I think it depends on the part of the organization. The teams managing the money-handling-software care very much about protecting your cents. The product managers inventing new fees do not.

Love to see Cinnamon/MATE represented. Now do AwesomeWM. Easily my favorite DE. Threads the needle between simplicity like i3 but has the power to do anything with it's full Lua config.

I wonder why it was chosen to represent everything, well, not unit vectors, but nothing higher than 1. Why should 2 and 4 both be [1 0 ...] instead of [2 0 ...], etc?

My only problem with the new code search is I've noticed some examples where exact string searches fail to locate some matches. I was looking for callers of a function and assumed no results meant no callers. But a simple 'search

The simplest might be an endpoint which asks 'which server should I connect to?' Then you can use whatever logic you want for it. If the client disconnects, it just asks again and reconnects. Use a token from the directory endpoin

You'll find plenty of the customer base of Databricks used to run their own clusters. It's a tradeoff. It might cost less dollars but more time. The time and expertise to run their own clusters effectively is not something every o

Sort of. It uses secret sharing so it's not based on computation power. And I didn't see any, but if there is the capability of onboarding new members in the network, it requires bootstrapping a new chain, I think.

Something to do with encrypting using a hash of the round number and pair encryption based off a chosen chain's public key. I'm still processing the pair encryption bits.
