Calculus would likely not be invented without infinity. Many theorems, identities, and techniques may be approximated but ultimately rely on proofs using infinities - I doubt we would have discovered them quickly or at all without infinity.

Tell all of the engineers using calculus that they don't need infinity. And you can't easily only partially include infinity.

It sounds like you've had some bad interviews - that is, that your interviewer did a poor job. Small nitpicks should not disqualify you, small mistakes should not disqualify you. In fact small mistakes are expected and can be used as p

First, consult a lawyer. Even if you talk to them later without one, you need to know where you stand from a legal standpoint.

I didn't say it was simple. I didn't say you needed to abandon mastery of a field of your choice. It is hard. But a soccer player should know how to make pasta, cook meat so that he doesn't get sick, even if he isn't a g

I think you should be able to set up database backups (it can affect your overall architecture, so someone in development ought to know). I think you should be able to configure a web server for the same reason. Security dependencies/u

You're both right. The other poster's claim is that we cannot verify the code running on the server. They could support this new scheme AND just store every thing in plain text. We can only verify the interface is the same (becaus

I've thought about this on and off for a long time. Urbit, Solid, Mastodon (anything ActivityPub), SecureScuttleButt, Matrix servers, etc. The biggest problem as I see it is cost. While I might want to have this for $60/year (or o

If you have a switch that activates before the key is fully depressed (i.e., keycap on board), then in a very real sense it might be the case!

Why would this ASN be classified as bots if it's meant to be for individuals? Granted, abuse can occur. But assume US-based with basic KYC or something so that most IPs might genuinely be nerds like me using it as their IP.

If anyone here knows enough about ASNs and the RIRs to set up a company whose sole purpose was for individuals to buy/lease IPs, I would gladly help set up and run such a company. The RIRs generally don't allow individuals to have

I need to do more research on that. The people behind Emby seem to understand and are trying to minimize the blow-out by making 'as many features in stand alone open source modules as possible'.

I can see the argument that Pin should be safe if you meet the contract it claims to need. The requirements are not sufficiently tight. Fair enough.

Perhaps computer scientists, but software engineering is almost entirely about trade offs, so a software engineer who can't talk in those terms won't succeed at more than basic levels.

I think this is a little too dumbed down for me to see the relevance to the actual problem. Also, I believ 1&2 both require unsafe code to implement the trait that allows the unsoundness. For what &T can I safely implement DerefMut?

But it does require unsafe? The implementation of DerefMut and Clone for the type being pinned require unsafe.

I didn't follow all of it, but it sounds not so bad. 1 & 2 both involve unsafe code that, while possibly reasonable in a complex application, is obviously wrong in the simple case. Of course turning a reference into a mutable refer

My WireGuard server hosts my DNS server which NXDOMAINs all social media and ads for my machines. If I really want to see what's up with some mess like this, I at least need to spend the 15 seconds it takes to turn WireGuard off.
