I'm sorry, can't find a picture right now. I call it "basket weave veneer", made by taking thin plane shavings, boiling them in a kettle and straightening them under weight and finally weaving them like a basket and appl

I work with collagen glues and boiled linseed oil all the time, and they work great together. I have made wafer thin all-natural composite materials using wood fibers (thin plane shavings) as the substrate, hide glue to hold it together and

There has been unusual hot and cold spells of weather on the high latitudes in the past year or so due to the arctic polar vortex behaving in an unusual way. My knowledge is limited, if there's a meteorologist reading this comment, ple

I started with Bate, Mueller, White: Fundamentals of Astrodynamics, which is US Air force material. It contains two courses, so you should skip some of the chapters at first. Then I read a bunch of research papers and more in depth literatu

In a same vein, check out Wolfpack on Steam. It is a 1st person coop submarine simulator with WWII era Type VIIC U-boats for max 5 players per sub. I've done a dozen patrols with different 2-4 player crews and it's kinda fun.

You could take this one step further by using the __COUNTER__ macro to generate unique numbers in the preprocessor. Alas, this isn't a part of the standard (iirc), so you need to depend on compiler-specific features.

Well yeah, seeing that photo I thought that it looks exactly like bitumen but it can't possibly be it.

No, beeswax, linseed oils, pine resin are not plastic. They can be used instead of plastic in many applications but they're still renewable and bio-degradable materials. Bitumen is a crude oil product, and quite nasty material indeed.

I guessed quite a few of these ingredients because I work with beeswax, tree resins and plant oils in the wood shop, particularly when doing instruments. I was surprised about the bitumen and its origin story (floating blobs in the dead sea

Yes, a pickup that has an output for each string is called a "hexaphonic pickup". Note that normal guitar pickups have one or two coils (humbucker) that span all six strings. A hexaphonic pickup has 6 or 12 coils for 6 outputs, on

While there are flight simmers who use VR, somewhat counter intuitively it's not really a good match. Also, it's a tiny market from a $$$ standpoint. In a flight sim you have lots of dials in the cockpit you need to look at, and l

Those "1000 lines of boilerplate" is why imgui and nuklear are so popular. If you're on a commonly used platform, say SDL and OpenGl, you can just copy all or most of it. But the magic here is that imgui and nuklear will inte

Yes, glued. Although "structural adhesive" is the preferred term. Race cars and carbon fiber supercars are built this way too, there is decades of experience in this kind of manufacturing for high stress environments.

More than just the voltage, the 8581 had significantly revised circuitry and better opamps due because they had much more silicon area and a better process available. It sounds disnctively different too.

The reason the C++ code looks simple is that it uses OpenMP #pragma parallel for, which is a very easy way of doing very simple loop parallelization. By contrast the Rust example uses parallel iterators from the Rayon crate. If the C++ exam
