The paying customer cares when your tech debt becomes so burdensome that you can no longer deliver features (or fix bugs) on the timeline they want.

This. Those with money and an interest in maintaining a positive appearance online can do so easily.

Companies often make employees sign agreements stating they won't do work for a second company while on the first company's property or while using the first company's equipment. So if you were going into the office and using

When I was a junior dev, my team was on the east coast of the US, but we worked daily with people from Ireland. This meant every meeting had a Skype link, and everyone was well equipped to screen share and collaborate remotely. The benefit

Check out discogs.com. Most music listeners don't covet their physical media anymore, but there are still millions of people globally who buy and trade vinyl, and even CDs. Anecdotally, I have a friend who collects rare underground CDs

It's funny that everyone is saying physical media is dying - that might be true for the majority of the population, but for niche music collectors vinyl is making a big comeback. I personally have a growing collection of a few dozen vi

The headline is pretty misleading and emotionally worded. The actual article doesn't really talk about "redemption" of the world.

You can call an animal "wild" without also condemning it to a cruel fate like the circus. It's not black and white. I don't personally know what the solution is, but I'm sure there's a more elegant middle groun

I think you can acknowledge the evils of the circus during that time and still also acknowledge that a gorilla is far stronger than most adult men, and more difficult to reason with should it get angry or violent.

> dressing up for work That's actually a great point - the days that I put on a button-up and nice jeans as if I was going into an office are days that I'm way more productive, as opposed to wearing pajamas all day.

Can confirm. I live in a 450 square foot studio apartment and I work from home every day. I would love a separate room to just be my "office," but my only room is already my kitchen, bedroom and living room too...

This is classic troll bait. Railing against the mayor of LA in a thread about housing and employment in the Bay Area. No opportunity to rant about big government must be left untaken, no matter how much of a stretch it is.

“Liberalization” is a massive generalization and I don’t see what connection you’re making between public school curricula and reasons someone might move out of Silicon Valley. It seems a bit silly to do so. Besides high housing demand and

That makes a lot more sense. I always pictured it as dinner first, then the movie, or just the movie itself, which never made sense. Still, how long could a conversation after the movie about the movie even last? "Yeah I liked it, it w

The newest one fixed it enough to satisfy me, i.e. it has a physical escape key again. I never used the rest of the function keys anyway, and I like the customizable nature of the touch bar. The lack of a physical escape key when they first

Dynamically typed, vanilla JS always seems like the faster option at first. Then your team grows, new developers inherit the project, and your codebase needs to be worked on at scale. This is when vanilla JS falls apart and becomes incredib

I came of age in the era of budding social media platforms, and that was my primary way to consume feeds and news online for the past 10 years or so (I include reddit in the "social media" category, especially more recently). Now,

Same boat here. I was a Google play music user for a long time, but switched to Spotify for good as soon as they announced YouTube music. The writing on the wall was there.

I assume so. Spotify has a feature somewhat like this, but I keep it turned off because I find it annoying and distracting. It’s a bit silly to try to justify a huge move like this based on such a trivial feature, in my opinion.

That seems a bit much, but I do feel bad for anyone named Karen now that it's become a meme. It seems really insensitive to turn a person's name into a pejorative.
