Speaking of skill level, it occurred to me last year to offer to be "roving guru" (sounds haughty) or "roving consultant" or simply "Rover" (woof!) when we have an odd number of developers. This works out nicely for me anyway, and the oth

I would love a real explanation. But believe you me, allergy science is just getting started. (So is a heck of a lot of other medical knowledge.) "Allergists" didn't even exist until a few decades ago. "Allergy and immunology" is a pretty n

Hooray! Thanks for spotting "denaturation" in the Wikipedia article (an authoritative source, I know). I hadn't bothered to look for anything about allergies there in years. Yes, my three allergists have all called it "oral allergy syndrome

I apologize for implying that you are an idiot. I was being facetious after taking the news of "denatured proteins" in a happy, light-hearted manner. As for the allergies, shall I come to your home for a demonstration? You can watch my lips

Aside from physical, eyesight, accessibility, noise, etc. problems, I pretty much can't stand pair programmming. It's good for social bonding and instructing noobs, but my work is hardly up to snuff. I can't "navigate" someone moderately co

Stallman refers to "exploring the roofs and tunnels of the MIT campus" in the 1960s and 1970s as hacking. FWIW, we used to ride on top of elevators (and sometimes their counterweights) at RPI in the 1970s and call it hacking. So, yes, I can

I learned from the article that cooking "denatures proteins." I happen to be very allergic to all raw produce except grapes, apples, onions, lettuce, and spinach. Everything else needs to be cooked. No crudités or fresh orange juice for me.

Thanks for the warning about Ludlum. The sad fact is, Dan Brown's junk is better than a lot of other stuff I borrow from the "New" rack at the library. At least Brown I can laugh at. Bad is bad, but laughably bad is better.
