One example would be to return a single value from a method containing Either the value you want, or the error. That way you could chain a bunch of method calls together and just check for errors at the end instead of checking after each me

Woot. looks like Go might jump decades from the 70s all the way up to mid 2000s language design.

I agree. I wish the Scala community would inherit some of the simplifying culture of the Go community.

I've used Java for over 20 years. Not once have I ever replaced an attribute with a computed value. Also p.x = p.y + p.z is much easier read. Another drawback of getters and setters is that you end up not looking at that code because y

I sold myself back into an IC position by focusing on my domain knowledge and architecture skills which was still part of my director role. I think the higher pay is an exceptional case where they are paying more for my domain knowledge tha

No need to create interfaces generally in spring when there will only be one class implementing. For testing, mocks can be created directly from the actual classes.

Oddly, I just went from a director level position to staff engineer at a new company, and am getting paid 50% more. I feel like I won the lotto. Management was stressful and full of nepotism. The only positives were being a bit upstream in

My reply was in response to "Async/await works well when you need to manage scheduling of a single thread" My point being that it isn't limited to cases where you only have a single thread.

Async / await is just an abstraction over threads. It doesn't dictate how many threads are used.

I get the feeling that Go programmers came from some other imperative language and got burned by some OO features. I feel kind of bad for them. I hope they never discover modern functional features or they will realize how much of their lif

Yes I agree as well. Our company uses Spring to write banking software and there is rarely a case that involve purely logic that can be separated from its dependencies. I used to try isolating code into separate methods that took no depende

like a lot of people buy into the idea that unlimited vacation is actually unlimited? Only the truly naive would believe that company BS. Don't get started on company "culture".

Starting with a monolith could lead to really difficult refactorings unless you structure the code in a way that it can be easily decoupled.

To be a fair comparison you either need to compare java to clojure or spring boot to whatever the comparable libraries would be in clojure.

Why are you comparing a framework to a language? Can I not write a Spring Boot app in Clojure?
