"All functions async by default and preemptible." Really? I thought functions were sync by default unless you add the 'go' keyword.

Yep they do. Wonder what the chances are for someone writing about their conservative viewpoint as opposed to the applicant writing about their struggles growing up in a racially segregated neighborhood?

Well, same thing really. They are asking a general diversity question in order to get more info about your cultural background.

As someone currently helping my son fill out college applications, I find this article 100% on point. For one public college, there are only two essay questions and they both deal with diversity. How does a white middle class male answer? H

I'm guessing you don't have a family? I easily went without a car when single living in SF. Now with a house and kids, two cars are used daily.

I only do as much 'ops' work as required by the idiots in charge. Its much more productive for me to be working on business solutions than screw around with getting traces and logs into datadog and figuring out all the permission

Its much cheaper to load up the car at costco every couple of weeks, than go down to the corner store every day.

Pendulum was the first album I ever owned. My mom bought it for my birthday when it was first released. Turns out it was one of their weaker albums but its still my favorite since it brings back such great memories.

I was given a single report once. Then a couple months later I was told to fire him. Apparently that's the reason I was given the report. Mgmt sucks.

In this case, how are private prisons not to blame?

I don't see anything about the prison being sued, just the judges. [Edit] Oh I see it now. No need to keep on downvoting :)

Trying to find something I agree with in this post. I programmed in Java for decades and found that there were plenty of new concepts to learn in Go. Not sure asking myself what concepts I knew would help me in learning Go, especially since

Happened at my last company. They hired an Indian CTO and before long, all the management under him was Indian. He basically made life unbearable for the existing leaders until they quit and then brought in someone he knew. Seemed like blat

My sportster went about 30K miles before it was stolen so can't say how far it would go. But insurance gave me more than I paid for it brand new, which you can't say about Japanese bikes.

I had a sportster with the engine solidly mounted to the fame. Drove it over 10,000 miles one summer. It was totally fine. Nothing broke or rattled loose.

Well estate tax is a different matter. I think its in the best interest of the country to tax estates heavily above a certain limit to help eliminate royalty in the US.

Well that's just another unworkable scheme. The income is already taxed at the highest rate so what you're suggesting is base the income tax rate on how much a person is worth, like if they are a billionaire make the tax rate 99%.

Not sure I understand. The laws work just like I described. Nothing to tax, which is the way it should be.

In this case there is no income so nothing to tax. Yet I would be worth $50 million and some would cry that's its unfair, which I think is silly.

Most of the wealth is in unrealized gains. How do tax that? Let's say I buy a painting for $1 and discover its a Van Gogh. Now its worth $50 million. Should I be forced to sell it to pay taxes?

Right. I used to fix bid contracts and assumed the risk, so I would charge more than contracting by the hour. I imagine employees would give longer estimates to reduce their risk of working overtime.

What is a results oriented work week? How do you measure? If its "I said I would get X done" then yes, a four day work week is much better.

Companies should be required to open the books to employees if they are offering equity. Without good data, employees are forced to believe the founders BS.
