This is fabulous! There are millions of old phones out there with decaying versions of iOS and Android. Google and Apple are ignoring them, so these devices are just plummeting in value. This is the perfect market for an actually-open-sourc

How easy is it to publish a site that is backwards compatible with existing browsers? I can't foresee a project like this gaining critical mass if it doesn't have seamless backwards compatibility with the traditional web.

Personally I consider a computer "real" if you can use it to write its own software. Until you can actually develop iOS apps on iOS, it will just be a toy.

Small world! I consider myself really lucky to have worked with you (Amjad) and Andrew (Canny Founder) on the React Native team in 2014/2015. Great times! Canny, repl.it, plus Expo of course.. you're the React Native mafia!

Why is anybody surprised? This is a classic telco playbook: - Promise awesome infrastructure - Lobby to get taxpayers to pay for it - Refuse to deliver, without recourse - Profit!!!

Agreed! There is a handy package called `denodeify` which converts the callback pattern (with err) to promises. It works for every async function in node, except for `fs.exists` which inexplicably does not provide an error in the callback.

Colloquially, you'd probably just refer to it as Easel. It could also be called Expo Clip. Then can say "clips" to refer to saved scripts.

The existential operator has been introduced as an ECMAScript proposal[1], so it will probably be included in future versions of JavaScript. The `idx` function is just a temporary workaround. When it gets added to the language, we can codem

Congrats to the team at AirBnB on the exciting launch! As somebody who has thought a lot about navigation on React Native, I'm super excited to see an easier way to utilize the native navigation views on each platform. React Navigation

The native build environment is tricky for a few reasons. On iOS it takes a slow download of Xcode and simulator, plus an Apple Developer account. Before CRNA, there was no open-source way to get start building an iOS app on Windows or Linu

If you have all the native dependencies, you can always make a RN app the old-fashioned way- `react-native init`. This is not going away. The Expo client is open source, so you can fork it for your needs if you want. Also, if you do start a

It feels like this is a missed opportunity to use a content-addressable store. It would be super valuable to have the capability of hashing content and knowing when you don't need to re-download it.

Most apps are not complicated enough to warrant their own native code. Like your Android example, there used to be a time when almost everything was written with Windows APIs. Of course, some apps will always demand native tech, but most of

Navigating isn't more complex in native apps, and I didn't mean to imply that. But navigation state may be deeper than flat sets of URIs: it may be a tree. For example: your app may have a stack of modal screens, and each of tho

From my perspective, React Navigation primarily differs from React Router in a few ways: 1) In RR, nav state is the URI. Because mobile nav state is complex, React Navigation treats URIs as actions to modify a more complex navigation state

On mobile apps, URIs are more like actions than like navigation state. The navigation state can be quite complex because there are often several navigators in an app that each need to maintain the state of several screens. For an example of
