Yes! Most of the examples of “challenging” algorithms in the blog post are actually fairly elementary stuff covered in undergrad algorithms. Suffix arrays though (especially linear-time construction) are the real deal.

Of course I understand enforcing 2FA when the user has signed up for/opted in to 2FA. But that doesn’t seem to be what’s happening here: Google unilaterally decided to enforce 2FA on a 1FA account.

Can someone explain how it’s anything but completely insane for an online service to deny access to someone with a *correct* password?? This isn’t someone getting locked out because they forgot their password (where I can at least understan

Nobody uses an abacus anymore. I use a calculator (well, Mathematica or scipy) to effortlessly solve problems that would be impossible to solve by hand. I appreciate, but don’t particularly understand or care about, the many decades of nume

I haven’t seen “grooming” used in a homophobic way? Instead it has been extended to mean “any relationship whatsoever with a vaguely unusual age gap.”

There’s a rather big gap between “exponential time” and “forever”! I routinely solve instances of problems in EXPTIME to solve practical problems with no difficulty…

So I definitely see an issue with Stable Diffusion synthesizing CP in response to innocuous queries (in terms of optics—-the actual harm this would cause is unclear). That said, part of the problem with the general ignorance about machine l

> return ({goto L; 0;}) && ({L: 5;}); What in the world…!! It’s in the GCC section so I assume it’s some kind of lambda-function-like compiler extension? That allows jumping between bodies of two different functions…!

FWIW I’ve heard a story essentially identical to what’s described in that Tweet directly from one of the engineers asked to print their code.

Fascinating that the OP compares Twitter to “living at Disney World”! I can’t stand the obviously fake facades and carefully curated costumes and fake smiles at Disney in large doses and never understood the mindset that could drive adults

Saving a document is a great example: I would much rather that the kernel corrupt 20% of my unsaved work on a document (with a warning about the corruption), than crash and delete 100% of it.
