Glad it worked! I think it's a failure by the TypeScript team to not make this flow more front and center. You are right, I forgot about installing typings. Instead of require you should use ES6 "import" (which TS compiles

I worked on exactly this problem for Chrome! I agree with all your major points -- in particular, optimizing incremental builds is the most important thing for developer sanity. Here's a post about what I did: http://neugie

Angular uses the decorator syntax, with a preprocessor that gives it different meaning.

FWIW, Angular templates are also checked at compile time. (But you're not wrong about the advantages of JSX -- as you observe Angular has its own syntax for looping etc.)

To me the real lesson of this post is something about analysis paralysis and losing financial perspective. The majority of the options appear somewhere around $1-$2 per oz and it appears a typical bottle is around 10oz, so the difference he

The delta between TypeScript and the JS standard is very small (for many TS users I expect it's a trivia challenge that they won't be able to answer: "write a TS program that isn't valid JS once you erase the types"

I've been working on a hobby app for some years that is a modern refresh of an old idea. As the article exhorts (and just for funsies, it's just a hobby) I'm writing it using native code and to be conservative on resources.

TypeScript supports ES7 features, for example. It also has a few language-local quirks (like parameter properties, described https://www.typescriptlang.org/docs/handbook/classes.html ). I find the grandparent arg

You might find my post on what "reload" actually means in Chrome interesting: http://neugierig.org/software/chromium/notes/2010/02/reload.... (a bit old but the ideas are still relevant)

When you hit the reload button, the browsers would still revalidate resources with long expiration dates. The fixes in the Facebook post are that Chrome changed to no longer do this on any subresource, and Firefox changed to no longer do t

Yes, that's a good point. If you ever get a chance to compare to clang-format I'd be interested to read your results. My vague understanding is that clang-format has some sophisticated-ish algorithms for intelligently wrapping c

If git is failing due to a system-wide file limit, that would explain why other programs are also failing. Perhaps some process has gone mad with creating files and if you find and delete those it will help things recover. (I agree with y

I worked on a project where lexing speed was of concern. Because it was C++ I didn't have the easy option of reaching for regexes so I instead wrote a hand-rolled lexer as suggested in the post. But later I found a tool, re2c, where y
