Future earnings should only be discounted solely with a risk-free rate if the future earnings themselves are certain, i.e. risk-free. But they aren’t, so you have to account for that with a steeper discount. Your $100bn earnings are shroude

Go on more multi-day fell hikes, 2020 I only had time for two. Get more involved in the restoration of a local cinema (some timing..) Improve parts of the algorithm behind https://www.cinetrii.com/

We use Kubernetes, according to our IT/devops guys it was pretty straightforward to deploy in Azure with Jupyterhub's KubeSpawner module + documentation. A few people are quite eager to learn Python / code in general, so we t

If your dashboarding needs are as rudimentary as you describe, then Streamlit! https://www.streamlit.io/ I use it for my dashboards. It's super simple to prototype apps and it's under rapid development.

During 2020 I took the time to migrate chunks of the workflow on https://cinetrii.com from Java to Python. Cinetrii is my NLP-based movie recommendation engine. Next year I will start tinkering with the algorithm more, and scale

A great example of why the success of ML in typical ML domains can't be trivially translated to finance. Typical domains lack feedback. A dog won't alter its appearance as a result of being classified by image recognition algos.

Many film recommendation systems suffer from a strong gravitational pull towards mainstream choices with no clear association to the input (”people who enjoyed The Thin Red Line also enjoyed Pulp Fiction..”). But I wonder what better result

I use the terminal in my work. I’ve come to loathe the obtuse UX - every function like PORT or EMSX has its own peculiar design that has to be learned by trial and error. A button named ”cancel” might be placed in a way that would imply clo

Film nerd, want to trace inspiration between different works. Some find it useful, but I haven't bothered monetizing it in any way. Currently reworking the scoring algorithm, will probably replace the awful UI at some point too. http:
