How? Everyone suddenly realizes they have been closet gamer for many years and comes out for VR?

Already a fulltime Engineer myself, I guess what I am looking at can be more phrased as applied machine learning, to solve production related problems. This is somewhat different than a regular engineering role though.

Wonder how research this is, what if people are looking for more engineering oriented experience?

My biggest issue about Medium so far, is the content. Too much opinion, not that enough investigation, like junk food dressed as fine dining with clucky javascript.

Without development of technique like Dropout Batch normalization, residual connection, better optimizer like Adam, even with enough data and computational power, DL won't be nearly as powerful as it is today.

While if you consider that human achieves intelligence through a lot of supervision(homework and exams) too, I won't go directly to disclaim only unsupervised learning can be hailed as the king. In fact, there is a discussion about the

Well said. One thing to point though, NLP leans towards the understanding of the semantic meaning of a sentence, while the article you referred here talks about speech recognition, which focuses on primarily audio to text. Comparing to spee

Wrong on so many levels. If AI has been well-researched in 90s, why it is DL that really pushes the boundary of several essential tasks, namely image/speech recognition, machine translation to near human performance? I am curious about

Talking about size, but not specific architecture is pretty meaningless at this moment. The assumption that only when we have comparable number of parameters to the number of brain cells we can have nearly human performance is no longer tru

In terms of GDP, US is about 20-25% of the globe. It is pretty significant, but I won't go too far to say it has domination.

This is so overdue, to a company that has become so safe in mentality and lack of innovation. Edit: look at the latest Macbook Pro, how out of touch this company has become, to put their philosophy/belief(thinner! lighter! no ports!) b

I think what AI really challenges is the value of man. Our current world relies on the assumption that more people means more productivity/consumption, so more growth and stronger economy. With the potential emergence of more capable m

Who said microservices don't need large heaps? The prefix 'micro' means the share of responsibility and boundary of functionality, not any hints at memory size. Of cause JVM needs to focus on large heaps. Now it still stucks

Trump is going to open those coal mines anyway, so don't worry. US is unlikely to lead the new energy revolution in, at least the next 4 years, I guess.
