The seasonal extremes of daylight are so extreme up here in Finland that the cycle of night & day seems a bit less like a 24-hour cycle and a bit more like a 365-day cycle. An artifact of this is that my 5yo might not see a dark sky for

A separate issue, innit ? There is a broader consensus on the capacity of mammals for suffering. Plus the issue of the innate value of life at some level (let's say, vertebrates).

Agreed on octopuses. Sure they taste OK, but it's maybe more of a novelty food than anything else, and when you have read of their alien and physically-distributed intelligence, guilt accompanies any desire to munch one.

I've had the same idea for Finnish, where all-uppercase text has some really ghastly kerning issues, like YT and VY and KY and (gack!) LJ. I hope to see a font RSN.

Unix has a hegemony that Go doesn't. Go can be a playground for the New Jersey Way. But sure, I'll sign on to "quizzical". Mainly I'm glad that in Go there's only two levels of visibility, not 3+. Much easier t
