Formspring does let you see someone's questions and answers without having an account if you go to the profile. I guess they could highlight some accounts on the homepage, but people mostly used it to ask their friends questions, so that wo

I've seen a lot of people bemoaning the loss of Google Reader's ability to see old items which aren't in the RSS feed anymore. Unfortunately, that feature can't be implemented as well without centralization.

The CCA isn't a software license issued to end users, like the GPL; it's an agreement contributors sign giving Canonical rights to their code. It looks like a less-restrictive alternative to copyright assignment, which the FSF requires for

There's presumably a sweet spot in between fixed costs and tiredness, and I suspect it's closer to 8 hours than to 4.

>By the same token, it's more efficient to hire one worker for 16 hours than two workers for 8 hours. Not necessarily. Being tired reduces efficiency.

But it's more efficient to hire 1 worker for 8 hours than 2 workers for 4 hours. The latter has more overhead in terms of training, etc. Why would an employer choose to do that?

What I want to know is, why the hell is Netflix faster than Xfinity's video service through my Comcast connection? I get minutes of buffering every time I use Xfinity. It's ridiculous.

My point was that it doesn't support the "technology is neutral" meme. A world with antibiotics is always going to be better than one without them. The worst you can do with them is make them less beneficial.

Water is that way, sure, but the specific example I gave isn't an evil use of water. What about antibiotics? Your only example of how to cause harm using them is by not giving them to people, which just shows that when they are used, they c

It's not the antibiotics being used for evil in your scenario, it's the lack of them. It's like saying water can be used for evil by depriving people of it. That's not at all the same thing as a technology which really can be used for both

No one is forced to participate in a corporation. If you like freedom so much, why don't you think people should be free to choose to pool their resources, and to give some of their control of those resources up to the group's leadership?

Why would autonomy be important for moon mining, with a round trip time of 2.5 seconds? The cost of an operator couldn't possibly be significant relative to the other costs involved in moon mining.

As far as I know, it can only create a pointer of type A that actually points to a value of type B, not reference unallocated/deallocated memory. Nullable<T> could do that too if the language allowed it.
