First of all, I think it's vital for web designers to know HTML and CSS. Even if they don't know it well, they should still know it enough to get the basics. The reason I strongly believe this is that the web is an interactive med

I don't consider being a mechanic to be a menial job necessarily. I was thinking more about boring jobs where you do the exact same thing over and over again, like working fast food or factory work. A mechanic has to solve new problems

When I double click on the canvas it selects it. You can fix it by adding: user-select: none; user-drag: none; With appropriate vendor prefixes.

If that's the case, I don't believe dumbing down the curriculum to the lowest common denominator of teachers is the solution to the problem.

It's great that they're being taught algorithms. It gives a context and reason to math and fights the "when am I ever going to use this" problem. Math should taught alongside algorithms to give the techniques context thr

I agree with you for a middle or high school level course, but I would hope a teacher could wrap their heads around a 5-7 year old level explanation of algorithms if they're capable of teaching math.

What basis are you using to know what Paxman was thinking? I agree there's room for potential mis-understanding (although I still think that sequence was horribly executed), but do you know that? Or is it just conjecture on what his me

I think the major problem here is just poor branding. npm can refer to any number of things. It can refer to the client, the server, the hosting provider, the public package registry, and now npm Inc. They all sound like the same thing but

I don't think it needs to be widespread. I bet if you put this in a central vending machine in the food court of a college campus, everyone would know about it in no time.

Some vending machines take credit cards now. Also, what year are you in? These cost $78 on amazon (312 quarters), not $187.50! :)

I doubt it would be the best distribution method :) But it would still be a good idea to put it in some high profile vending machines even if nobody buys it from them. If you saw an MP3 player while you were off to buy some Mike n' Ike

GitHub is another example of a company that caters to the open source community while still having a business plan. Right now npm is at the core of every project using node.js, and businesses have more complex needs than open source project

Makes sense. One obvious power feature, that not only doesn't affect normal users, and would be well worth the money, is a locked down priority server. With npm being an open registry, any author can overwrite any release at any time.

New frameworks are getting simpler and easier all the time. They try to avoid the pitfalls that old ones fell into and thus become easier to learn than the last generation. It's far far easier than learning a new language, and it'

Computer science concepts build on each other, but technology and frameworks don't necessarily get more and more complex. If you fall behind, you could always skip a generation of technology, and pick up the one after just as easily. I

I did not interpret the article as being git should be a primary source of documentation at all. I have a hard time seeing which part of the article implies that. I think he's just pointing out how it's another tool you can use.

The point of the article has nothing to do with the code snippet. My point has nothing to do with the code snippet. It's just about code in general, and it's never as easy to understand as you want it to be.

"Code happens". In reality, there's code that should have been commented all the time and even in the best codebases. I don't think there's a coder in the world who hasn't had a time when he's looked back
