Unfortunately using SPICE pretty much requires knowing exactly how it works so that you understand it's limitations. In turn, this makes it hard to learn, especially for students.

Interesting question! I don't know the actual reason, but if I had to wager a guess I'd say that it's due to the different types of doping of the silicon. Some searching did indicate that is what gives some types of gemstones

I tried it with a new password today. The requirements were between 8 an 32 characters and some special characters allowed. I just tried with all lower case letters and it rejected it. Prior to changing my password however, I experienced ev

I didn't know they changed their policy, so thanks :). Their old policy stripped out capital letters too which made it even less secure. Sadly it still doesn't allow all special characters, but it's a start.

It's a copy of one of the comments on the link. It should have been in quotes at a minimum.

you'd probably want to zero the length in the list structure and remove the dangling pointer to the first element otherwise you run the risk of a double-free.
