The "issue" is the comparison is much more complex than people may be led to believe. It's not a simple "adjust the dollars to be the same" calculation. There are a lot of assumptions that go into making that calc

Seeing as your LLMs need the novel output of human brains to even exist or expand capabilities, quite a lot. But even if it's not a lot, it's more than the number of LLMs that can invent new meaning which is a grand total of 0.

I'm more interested in the reason the OP had in mind. I don't think it's required that you have a placebo control group, but the OP might have a reason in mind that's something I haven't considered.
