What was happening in SK was that the hardware of the device started mattering more to consumers than the content on it. They tried to duplicate this in the US with Helio and failed. Unlike in SK, the bandwidth doesn't' make up for the crap

People get so caught up in existing paradigms and the resultant hegemonies which enforce them that they become blind to the obvious. This journalist is not alone in this. Examples permeate both media history and just criticism in general. F

Such a beautiful plane. I got the chance to see the second to the last flight of the NASA SR-71 at Edwards AFB in I think 2001 or 2000. The airplane is other worldly, loud as hell and simply beautiful. They did a full Mach 3 overhead pass (

The RIAA has one of the biggest misnomer names in the lobbying business. They serve the interests of record labels and the plutocracy who maintains control and legislation of that control. Not artists. The sooner they cease to be an issue t

Reminds me of http://www.blackrimglasses.com/2008/08/23/the-frustration-of... Basically: I wanted to buy a song. It wasn't available. I ended up pirating it and donating money directly to the lead singer of the band. Or in other words: wi

Vevo is not a label. It is a JV that includes YouTube among labels.

It's worth noting that the AddressBook API dates back to mid 2008: "The Address Book framework provides access to a centralized contacts database, called the Address Book database, that stores a user’s contacts." It has been there since iOS

To be fair: Neil always had a great relationship with his record company since being with Reprise. He'd come in and hand deliver every record, staying for playback in our artists lounge. A great guy, super fun and always a joy to hang out w

This isn't only difficult for consumers, but for producers as well. For example: a few years ago I worked on a worldwide project for Metallica (www.missionmetallica.com). Get the laughter out of your system now........ Metallica is represen

My gym time is diminished because a year and a half ago I moved a considerable distance from where I then worked, and still a bit further from where I now work. However I typically run 6 miles a day during the week at around 9PM, which serv

I can't wait until I can buy an American made Android phone. Oh wait. These arguments based on dichotomous binary are pointless. Nothing is as simple as "good" an "evil". Nor is Apple to blame on their own for the China conditions. No more

I used to be a label executive and you pretty much nailed it. And nailed why I left. I worked with a group of really great people who strove for innovation. However the tendency is still to mine the past for as much as its worth until there

I get that, but being inside, I can tell you that what labels would do often was at odds with their parent company, even in press and in public. It's not spin, its fact. I participated.

The RIAA represents WMG, UMG and Sony Music. Each of those has a bunch labels. They themselves are not labels. For instance, WMG corporate has no A&R staff. The business of music is different than the practice of it, and lumping it all

Not trying to be offensive, but seeing the RIAA thrown around as this big boogeyman is annoying, and also seeing it stand in for labels, artists even more so. One of the biggest foes for MegaUpload was porn, who have much more money but les

This article is from 12 years ago. A lot of the math doesn't apply anymore. Labels will rarely front that much money for recording costs unless justified by past success. The days of million dollar videos are over (in just the last 5 years)

So sad. All this effort because they spent years ignoring technology and trying to do innovation via outsourcing and customer dis-servicing business development. I know first hand :)

This makes me sad for some reason. The turbine engine in an F-16 or F-4 is a beautiful piece of machinery. Design and functionality merged entirely really. And they just blow them up. Although they likely use high-hour engines (as I know a

I often joke (with myself since I'm sad that way) that everyone must at some point make a productivity web-app. It's nice that Joe has made one that fixes a few things that annoy me about most. Most are targeted at engineers first (Pivotal)

I have absolutely no need for this and yet I want it anyhow. It's nice because it makes something ordinary precious through anachronism and size. If it had an API I could see using this as a fun tool for people visiting an office. Another n
