Redirecting to 127.0.0.1 is the most effective strategy. The web hosts who host these compromised sites will notice the increased load and the sites are more likely to get suspended for the good of the internet.

Fedora really is a great workstation distro. The best part about using it is that you get to learn the tools you'll be using on your own and your employers CentOS/RHEL servers in a couple of years. We're about due for CentOS

Nice debugging skills, but I can't help think that's what you get for running Gentoo in production. You should be using what everyone else uses (i.e. Debian or CentOS) so they run into problems before you.
