As someone waiting to upgrade, it's a little annoying that they seem to be taking so long. The 15" pro is still using Haswell processors.

Exactly! That's why I suggested wood buildings might be interesting. Lots of the apartment buildings in Manhattan were solidly built in the late 1800s or early 1900s and are not going anywhere.

This is pretty interesting. What if our housing wasn't built to last indefinitely, but had a life cycle of maybe 50-100 years? As cities change, their housing stock could more naturally change with them. That said, I'm not sure if

I'm not sure if this is me misreading your comment, but this has been extensively worked out. We have really excellent knowledge of how metabolism works compared to a lot of other processes in biology. You learn this as the major,

Kcal = 1000 calories calorie = amount of energy required to heat 1g of H2O 1 degree Celsius This is defined in chemistry 101. This entire thread sort of makes me want to face palm.

I have to disagree with you about research funding. There is not nearly enough-most people are dissuaded from pursuing research as a career because it is unbelievably competitive to get research grants, which is why we don't have enoug

This is really cool and a great idea! Do you know any psychiatrists who could help you come up with a really good list of questions to ask and things to track? I'm just a medical student but I could probably put you in touch with a goo

Idk how you could quantify that astrophysics is more competitive than biology. There is a lot more money and also many more investigators in biomedicine. NIH grant funding is insanely competitive. Anyway, you are responding to an argument t

Do you really think this reviewer for FASEB, an HHMI Investigator and a tenured professor at Rockefeller University, doesn't "understand the academic process?" For better or for worse, biology isn't like computer science

Meaningful use for EHR is completely different from IT security practices. Additionally, payments for implementing new EHR systems are declining to zero; it was a temporary measure. I think you don't really understand what is implied b

I think there are two components to this: First, HIPAA requirements are in part IT requirements. Every single hospital works really hard to comply with these, because there are huge fines if they don't. Some of the problems with hospit

A characteristic is not valuable simply because it can be measured with empirical data. You also presume it is not possible to measure academic success empirically.

This is hilariously bad. Schools that produce academics as opposed to those who go into high-paying professions are penalized, when in fact (at many of the top institutions) producing academics is one of the main goals.
