There are native-English dialect groups which make no distinction between the vowels in 'pin' and 'pen'. For all I rib my wife about falling on the other side of that line, it took my American ear a long time to hear UK-

It used to be better. When I first lived in the UK, going on thirty years ago, it was brilliant. Even fifteen years ago both NHS and private were head and shoulders (and more) better than the US (I have intimate experience with both sadly).

This is totally anecdotal, but I suspect this is a skill that varies across the population. A buddy in high school was uncannily accurate when guessing the time without access to a watch or clock. His error bar would increase with the amo

I would expect from a developer's perspective it makes sense to stick with Apple's mechanism until ARR * 0.30 = whatever it costs to run your own solution. (More power to you if you're the developer who can do that from the s

I think there was a sweet spot - roughly late 90s (maybe ODB2 adoption, whenever that was for a given brand), through the mid-oughts - where you got most of the benefits of computerization without most of the drawbacks. I have a car from th

I don't like that change, either, but making "System Settings" analogous to Apple's (indeed messy) iOS settings has been a boon to the users I support. They're used to iOS's quirks, and now require much less ha
